Considering an underbody inspection of my E39 M5 with Redish.

Anyone out there with recent experience of them for this type of work?

I know there's a fixed price for the inspection but what is their general pricing for work beyond that ie. the actual cutting out of corrosion, welding in new metal and making good?

Any idea of their hourly rate for this rust remediation work?

Can't comment on that particular sort of work but they took my F10 M5 in September, gave it a preventative rod bearing change as well as remediating a number of general service / wear and tear items and I have to say they were absolutely meticulous in everything they did. They are approx 100 miles away from me but I won't take the car anywhere else in the future.

100% would go. They’ve inspected 2 of my cars and the service and information has been impeccable. Great guys..

They've been very responsive to my initial inquiry with voice messages from James at Redish (via WhatsApp) outlining what's involved in the inspection. Seemed very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. All good so far.

I know rust remediation work is individual to each car but does anyone have experience of their pricing for this sort of work?

So that I can get a feel for costs, would be good to get some pricing feedback from someone who, say, at the 'deep end', has had both sills, jacking points replaced and a general underbody de-scale carried.

Also at the other end of the spectrum, perhaps some indication from a customer who had less invasive cutting out/replacing of just the ends of the sill and nothing more.

I have to say, the YouTube videos are somewhat terrifying. Here's the latest (there are others!):-

Pretty sure mine is nowhere near as bad but can't be certain until the plastic sill covers and wheel arch liners are removed.

My E39 530i Sport is going down on the 23rd for it's inspection and quote for the rear jacking points to be repaired, when I spoke to James about estimated costs he said that the red M5 on YouTube was in the £5-8K mark for the owner to get the work done.

Easier to swallow if your doing the work on an M5, not so much on a non-M car.

Many thanks. That's a very useful benchmark.

Never used them but watching the YouTube videos they put out I would say they are possibly the best in the country. They want perfection and that’s right up my street.

BodyMotorWorks near Chesterfield have done a lot of this. I was there a year ago and there was a 530i Sport having just this done - rear axle out, sills cut out and new sections welded in, correct stonechip, undersealing etc. They'd done a lovely job on one side already.

Redish are very good but charge like a wounded bull.

Their number is 01246 864803. Matt the owner is ex BMW bodyshop so knows what's what.

For my E39 M5 in 2018 I used a friend of a friend who is a professional restorer in Kent. I had sills, jacking points and rear arches done with new metal and painted for less than £1k. PM me if you'd like the contact.

I’ve used them for my old e46 M3. They are the ‘go to’ people alongside Weldtech in Bristol for underside work.

Expensive, but they know these cars inside and out and will only do a proper job.

I think Jamie on reception had a e39 M5 as well…

Many thanks for all the feedback.

Always good to have a few options when it comes to this sort of work on one's pride & joy.

Agree with everything thats been said to date except this one, sorry.
Covered good friends car in underseal and scratches, the reply when raised was "these things happen"

I would be very surprised if that was Redish.

Their attention to detail, and commitment to quality is exceptional.
