M6 exhaust - Southampton?
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I am looking to change the OEM exhaust on my V10 M6 for something with a bit of tone. The factory one is great at hiding that beatiful engine.
Not looking for a loud straight-pipe, but a nice system with good tone. Happy to travel, but based near Southampton.....
Does anyone know of a manufacturer or fitting company that specialises in these in the south of England ?
Thanks in advance :-)

Why not modify the original back box? The 2 pipe mod on my E92 M3 was amazing, think similar is possible https://www.exhaustmods.co.uk/
Well I took the plunge and went with a Longlife (brand name) system, fitted by their installtion team in Southampton.
I had to try and balance the sound against what I wanted and what the wife thought would be too noisy; so I got the version with the secondary CATS. The garage agreed an extra of £100 to remove the CATS and reweld to straight pipes if it wasn't the right tone/noise level. Which is good service.
The Longlife stainless is cheaper to buy that Eismann or Akropovic; which probably reflects their R&D costs and I would not doubt the more expensive versions will have better tone .....but £7k for the exhaust on this car was going to be too much. The final cost, all in came to under £1,700; which is a bargain for a stainless system.
On the E64 (with the roof up) the sound is great, a massive improvement over the OEM system (what were M Power thinking !!!).
The real test was could it meet the needs of both me and the Mrs ....no simple ask for an exhaust. She wants it to sound like a Prius and I want to hear the V10.
TBH she wasn't happy, even with me driving the car like Miss Daisy was in the back. But she hasn't refused to come out in it :-)
With the M button on and driven with the roof up it is awesome.....so I lookforward to this never-ending-rain stopping so I can give it a blast with the roof down. As anyone who has driven the E64 knows, the exhaust sound with the top down is noticebly louder....so I am going to be chuffed with the compromise.

This marked-up image shows the problem with the geometery of the left side box. Two of the angles on the pipe are incorrect; which pushes the box too close to the underside bodywork, against which it is rattling. The installtion team have been great in trying to resolve it, but regardless of how much they try to adjust it the problem is one that was caused by a fabrication error. So a replacement box seems to the only sensible option.
Note the different gaps of the two pipes to the rear axle oil box/cooler.
They are offering to cut & weld; but I'm not sure that is the solution; i should be right in the first place and their time and labour are a loss for the installation team.
Very unfortunate that the alignment of one silencer is off, and that it may mean a replacement is necessary.
Good luck with that. On a different note, the "spare wheel well" (I know it doesn't have one) appears to have been welded, and is quite rusty? Did it have an accident previously?
