Hi folks.

First time here.

I get my M2 Competition on Thursday, and I'm planning ahead what set(s) of tyres I'll need.

It comes with Michelin Pilot Super Sport as standard, but I've heard a couple of YouTube reviewers saying they're sketchy in the wet & cold. Anyone agree/disagree with this?

Secondly, what's the best performance winter or all-season options out there for the car?

I've got away with summer tyres on my other cars in the past, but this has more power and RWD so I really don't want to mess around!

cheers.

Thanks, I think that's answered a lot of my questions. (Handy that the video is the M2C, hah!)

So PS4S has the best wet lap times... does that usually equate to safer wet cornering on the road?

If so, I'll probably swap ASAP and use them all year.

Super Sports are not sketchy in the wet. They are a great all-round road tyre.

Worth changing to PS4S when the PSS is running out of tread.

I had PSS on my 140i for 22 months no problem at all, you just need to be careful comes raining or snowing.

Well, they're sketchier than the Cross-Climate+ on a very wet Nordschleife wink

But that's on a 330D that's used in all conditions (and as a back-up car when the Z4M is ill).

The Z4M has Michelin Supersports, and they're not the best in the wet, and I won't be able to fit PS4S in the OE 18" sizing - so looks like I'll be trying the Goodyear Supersports.

To be fair, the CC+ are not terrible on the track, and they lasted 10 laps of squealing understeer, oversteer, 4-wheel drifts without showing an obvious wear (still go them on after 20,000 miles).

PS4S, in my experience, offer better traction in the wet but ultimate grip is very similar. I'd say PS4S offers between 5-10% better performance in the wet but it's by no means night and day.

(OP here, new forum username.)

Thanks guys.

So I'm going to keep the PSS then, then look at winter options (in, what, a month? hah), maybe Alpin or CC+.

Agree with this - keep the PSS for the time being but replace with PS4S when you need new tyres.

My experience is with the M135i and M140i, but I have found the Pilot Super Sport fine in the wet.

In cold winter weather, they has noticeably less grip until the tyres warm up a bit (maybe below about 5 degrees). In the snow they have almost no grip at all, but that's hardly surprising when you look at the tread pattern.
