Im looking at changing my 330D convertible soon as its simply impractical for two kids.

My options are.......

Sensible: M135I
Stupid: M6 Gran Coupe

I will be buying cash therefoere whatever i get, it must stay in my ownership for a minimum of 5 years.

The question is it a silly every day car? Or will it be good for day to day car?

Costs arent an issue, im hesitating between the two because i am saving to buy a Ferrari in the next few years and buying an M6 might hinder that "couple of years" aim.

Will i get bored, or do i bite the extra £10k and get an M6GC???

ARRGHHH im so confused.

If you get the M6 GC, get one with a BMW AUC Warranty. There is barely a day that passes that I do not learn of an S63 engine breaking.

Maybe the sensible answer - considering one of your options is not much bigger than the 'small' 330D convertible you want to replace - is a F06 640i/d GC -or an F31 340i/335d Touring?

Not had an M6GC, but I did have a stage 1 640d GC. The facelift interior is certainly worth trying to reach for.

Have to say though, it is one of those cars that's a lot smaller on the inside than it is on the outside. I don't know if this is a concern to you but it's perhaps worth considering if/when you view one.

i use mine everyday it's a very nice place to sit and a very good drive on the paddles. Plenty of space inside and it's quite quick on full attacksmile

It's quite long and although I am usually an excellent parker I often get out and its wonkyrolleyes

The wife likes it which is a plus i suppose as she's not keen on the Griff and then it's still a special car for a weekend away.

The Ferrari is a nice goal I ache for an F12 someday but who knows what lies around the corner so until that becomes possible make good use of today in case tomorrow the fan is brown sticky and smelly.

I would do it obviously.

Stop being a fking fanny and just buy one!

Life’s too short not to have a horrifically depreciating 4.4l twin-turbo V8 in your life.

Ask me how I know? laugh

First and foremost, bin the 135i. Why is it even in the same sentence? Yes m6gc is bloody marvellous, bit long, marvellous nonetheless, but why not get a coupe or a f10 m5 for a couple thousand less and less long? Because the gc for some reason feels longer than the 7 series.
None have much more to depreciate and they all are quite fine sporty wafters.
135i will be about the same in costs and depreciate even more. So that's that for the financial part.
Run the s63tu right, proper group 5 5w50 oil on half the dumb bmw schedule, always topped off, clean that pcv on maintenance (not really a problem, but on city daily, like any di, it will cause stupid, expensive problems) fresh plugs and coils every so often, a injector cleaner, again every so often, don't do stupid mods on it, basically just care the bare minimum about it and it will endure for hundreds of thousands without problems.
If you have the space and time, do the maintenance yourself, everything is very easy to do, coils and plugs are a bit annoying, but everything is pretty simple, and a full service at home (gearbox included) will run you about the same as an basic oil and filter service at bmw.
