40k gives you a choice of either. Which one would you choose and why? (petrol consumption/running costs irrelevant).

X5M! I was choosing between an X3M and a 2018 X5M and having owned an X5M50D previously, the interior fit & finish is superior in the X5, it has full leather dashboard and is more comfortable. Chose the X3M in the end for being the newer and lighter car, but against an M40i no question!

X5M, for what it is it shouldn't be able to do the things it does.

Currently running an f85 x5m and an f25 35d.

X5m all day long if you can stand the extra tax and running costs.

Ps I ran an f15 m50d prior to the x5m. Night and day different.

If you're going AUC then it gives you a choice of one X5M all the others are 5-15k more, you have to ask yourself whether you want to run a £100,000 car at 4-5 years old and underwrite the potential issues or pay 2.5k per year for a warranty...

Very good point Wills. I wasn’t aware just how much the extended warranty was on the X5M; had assumed it was around 1k’ish. Bit of an eye opener! That’s a point back to the M40i. (Or find an X5M with an extended Bmw warranty in place).

Don't know where you get £2500/year from. I've been quoted £110/month for my F85.

Interesting! I’ve just tried a few of the ones on AT and they’re all coming up as £1589 for the year, which is more what I was hoping.

This is no roadside assistance and £250 excess on a 2017 car.

Get the X5M it's light years aheas of the X3!

Pricing depends whether it's currently under warranty when you take out the new/extended one.

I don't know what specific numbers we're talking, though.

I pay £88 per month for a BMW extended warranty on my 2016 f86 X6M. Car now has 30,000 miles and I have had no issues. Just gives a little peace of mind in case anything does go wrong.

On my second X6M and I love it. I have a second set of wheels and winter tyres and have had no issue going anywhere for the few days of bad snow we get here in the UK.
Can’t thing of anything I would change it for if I’m honest.

Luke.

Also toying between an 2016/7 X5M and an X3 M40i. Really interested to hear from anyone that's been driven/gone down a similar thought process. Don't do massive miles, about 8,000 a year, and don't mind paying for a warranty...

Went from 50D to X5M and then X3MC.

50d was good if thirsty for a diesel IMO. 5M felt super nimble and quick after the diesel. The 3 makes the other two feel vague and wallowy, not noticed any loss in performance, Fuel consumption on the X3 better then the 5M by a few MPG.

Do miss the better leather that was in the 5M and the alcantara headlining but nothing else.
