Looking at M4C or M2C deals
Discussion
HI,
After a bit of advice really, currently own a G20 320d xdrive with most m-performance parts & wheels as I do roughly 20,000 miles per year, I've always been interested in an M car especially the M2C and M4C but couldnt justify the extra cost. With the deals coming out atm with 2.9% apr and contributions would it be worth selling mine and getting a finance deal as I'm concerned about my car depreciating heavily over the next year?

Just consider the moment you take delivery on an M2C you're likely to be £10k down, even after the healthy discounts being offered. If depreciation is a concern I would look at something 2+ years old, I believe the 2.9% APR is now being offered on used M cars, or just finance elsewhere to work around the 10.9% approved used finance.
Cheeky dealers put the prices up on several cars I've been monioring to counter act the 2.9% offer ex-demo cars (up to 18 months old I believe).
One M4 went up £2k overnight despite not selling for nearly two months.
Good vale ones were snapped up at the start of the offer and only a few are being drip fed into the AUC now.

You didn't honestly believe BMW would give you something for nothing...did you One M4 went up £2k overnight despite not selling for nearly two months.

I remember when I bought my Z4MC over a decade ago, the dealer was pushing me towards a 3 months newer, 30,000 mile one with lower spec when I'd arranged to see a 9,000 mile one with £8k of options (including individual leather & paint, and CSL wheels) - for the same price. Salesman couldn't seem to realise I was only interested in the one I'd arranged to see - and if it was not available then there were 2nd & 3rd ones I had on my short-list to see at other dealers - which were also better value than than the one they were pushing.

I don’t want to be an arse, but since when have M2’s been a nearly 60k car, even 50k with your “deal”..
I’ve just got out of an M4 CP and knew it was a £65k car new - but assumed these M2’s were 50k tops with most buyers likely buying at 40-45k.
Crazy what cars list at now everybody pays monthly.

Over inflated RRP with a similarly sized dealer contribution and a high balloon makes punters feel like they are getting a good deal. I’ve just got out of an M4 CP and knew it was a £65k car new - but assumed these M2’s were 50k tops with most buyers likely buying at 40-45k.

It will, but so will the M car especially if you're doing 20k a year, I did 25-30k a year across 4 new M cars and it's not an inexpensive hobby. After a bit of advice really, currently own a G20 320d xdrive with most m-performance parts & wheels as I do roughly 20,000 miles per year, I've always been interested in an M car especially the M2C and M4C but couldnt justify the extra cost. I don't think you're being an arse with this comment. I think anyone paying £50k+ for a 2 series laments the prospect, but that is the price that the market has decided it will cough up for the top of the 2 series tree and BMW are happy to offer it.I’ve just got out of an M4 CP and knew it was a £65k car new - but assumed these M2’s were 50k tops with most buyers likely buying at 40-45k.

It is a strong price, but you have to consider the tangible difference between your £65k M4 and the typical M2C price of £50-55k, these are on the whole only little extra metal and some extra flashes of leather. All the expensive bits, the electronic systems, the drivetrain and the power plant are near identical. To expect to get essentially the same product, in a different wrapper, for considerably less is unrealistic.
You also need to consider what £40-45k gets you these days. In new form, a basic 320d M Sport is £39k+ options. Want the 320d M Sport Pro xDrive? Of course you do, you're already getting turned over for £40k, might as well get the nice one. That's £45k without any options. This makes £50k for one of the most well rated genuine M products released in recent years, for £5k more than a diesel saloon, seem like a very very good deal. Perspective being the key here, as I remember when Fiesta's were £10k, a 320d was £30k and the M3 with a big boy V8 was just a sniff over £50k, the time I'm remembering is not 2020, regrettably.
The thing is though, no one pays near list for a BMW. The RRP is meaningless and distorts the actual real value of the car
My father in law has just got a 440 Grand Coupe with over £10k off. When I bought my M4 I got £12k off 2 years ago. I think there is silly money off M4's now. I'd wager you would easily get between £6 - £8k off a 320D
This inflate the price, discount to generate demand is crazy

List price is irrelevant. My M4 Comp listed at £73k. It is absolutely not a £73k car. I got a discount of £22k on a brand new and unregistered one with ease. I feel £50k is an acceptable price for what it is.
Interestingly what is the total cost of the finance plus the end of term balloon? I've just signed up for a M4C (San Marino Blue + most options) at the weekend. Deposit contribution and low rate 2.9% APR almost made it a no brainer for me as they gave me strong money for my P/X as well (£2.5k more than anyone else was willing) which I was desperate to get out of.
You won't be able to get deals on the new M4 like this for at least a couple of years I suspect, at which point most people are looking to change cars again anyway.

There are some great deals out there at the moment. I just signed a deal for a sunset orange M2C with both packs (£57,990) and got £7,500 off at 2.9% apr.
Another orange M2C? I thought we were rare beasts. Not through Sytner High Wycombe by any chance?Picked mine up at the end of July, with both packs, and was pretty much the same price as yours.

Whilst it makes little odds I think you’ll find it was probably a £73k car new though. These £50k new buys are relatively recent as it’s got long in the tooth...russy01 said:

You are right that (nearly) everybody buys on some type of PCP these days. Given this, it's probably irrelevant what list/discount price a punter pays and it would be more useful to quote monthly's, balloon payment and mileage allowance. I wouldn't pay £50,000 for a 2 series but my 'man math' lets me pay £620 ish a month.

If you can afford the car, however you choose to pay for it, then go for it! It will be a big improvement over the 320d even with the m-performance parts and wheels.
