New wheel arch trim extensions

Has anyone else seen the new wheel arch extension trims BMW seem to be fitting to new deliveries? I've seen them on the M2 competition and the new M5. They look awful!! Horrible black plastic and running around the whole wheel arch. I couldn't beleive my eyes when I saw it in a showroom. What are BMW playing at?

I saw this on an M2 CS walk around video and on the configuration too. They are for drag reduction and coast down testing so I can only assume the car has been re-homologated perhaps when the CS was done....?
