Hi all,

Just a quick question on BMW M brake pads. Looking up the VIN number, there appears to be two versions. One version at £350 for front pads and then an asbestos free version which are over £100 cheaper.

Does anybody have any idea as to what the actual difference between the two is and which I should get to replace?

Cheers
Chris

Sorry - ETA - it’s an original M2 so there wasn’t the option for the upgraded brakes as with the competition.

Are you sure it's asbestos free? There is a 2021 regulation stating copper must be removed from brakes pads which has been adopted by most OEMs. Asbestos hasn't been used for years.

For £350, I would expect them to be made of palladium, lovingly hand formed on the thighs of buxom Bavarian maidens.

Makes mental note to be sparing on the brake pedal...

Just to update anybody else in a similar situation in future - looks like the cheaper (listed as asbestos free) pads are the standard ones and the higher priced versions were for the upgraded brake kit. So came to around £220 including a new sensor.
