Saw this advert for a RHD M3 here in NZ. I didn’t think they made them in RHD. I am getting confused?

BMW didn't make them in RHD, but cars have been converted.

Correct me if I'm wrong, was under the impression LHD was 'illegal', or at least not able to road register a LHD car, in NZ.

Not sure about the rules but there are loads of left hand drive cars here - mainly American as Kiwis seem obsessed with old American metal. But I think you are right that there are some restrictions (maybe new cars?)

Yes BMW did make right hand drive E30 M3's!!

There were only 2, althought they did make a one off yellow convertable for the Brunie Royal Family. That one was bespoke and does not count as a limited edition series.
I managed to find the article in an old "Total BMW" magazine.

Couple of photos below, but I am unable to scan the atricle so I will also give a breif summary. If anybody wants my copy of the magazine let me know - or if able to scan. Perhaps PH should do an article for everybody to have this information?

The article was written in 2011 and focuses on a black M3 Evolution 2 in Hong Kong.It had remained like the other in a Japanese collection until 2010.
They were built at the Munich Milbertshofe factory, before being transfered at a late stage to the M Division at Garching. They used a modified rack and pinion steering from the 325 along with pedals and dash plus a bespoke exhaust system.

The owner of the black M3 changed the paint from metallic to gloss black on delivery. The new owner in Hong Kong installed a high end McIntosh sound system. The cars are Evolution 2 models but the owner of the black car was able to specify Sport Evolution seats and red detailed bumpers.
The other car was Alpine White.

They have BMW identity plates (see photo); but were never officially announced or put in a catalogue, hence nobody seems to know they exist.

mmm I would love one of those cars!

They had to use the slower steering set-up from the 325i in the process I believe though

I read somewhere that the conversions used the slower racks from the 325i and it wasn’t quite as good a car as the left hooker because of it.

I had a RHD converted M3, pretty easy to do modified stock manifold and faster z3 rack, its the small stuff stuff as wing mirrors, wipers door cards etc that are required to make it OEM in appearance
