M4 used values

Morning...
I hate threads like this, so sorry in advance.
In feb I bought my M4 Cab CP, used ‘66 with 5k miles for £40k cash.
Whilst I really like the car and it’s perfect for what o currently need - I’m not in love and know it’s not a long term (forever) keeper. My plan was to keep for a couple years before moving into a 911.
Anyway all the talk of super cheap pre-reg cars (<£50k) and the new model on the horizon has made me ponder the future value. I.e it’s got to take a huge hit in the next 12months if new cars are so cheap.
So I’m half considering swapping into a runaround daily for the winter whilst it’s still worth not far off what I paid (damage limitation). Then starting from scratch early next year when I might be able to make the 911 thing happen?
Small things to also add - warranty about to run out, so will need renewal at £1500pa. Maintenance items like Tyres and it’s first service will need doing in 12months too.
I know it’s crystal ball stuff, but am I overthinking this or do you think there is some logic to it?

I’d say it makes sense , if
1, you can get a good price on yours
2, You pick a sensible runabout
I’d say for 2 don’t skimp , try and find something that has an approved used kinda warranty and won’t depreciate much. Your losses will be less than the warranty on the M plus all the savings on fuel costs. And a better car with warranty , won’t lead to any unforeseen costs or big loss plus be easy to sell.
When I was looking I considered the Mini as they were cheap , even approved used with warranty , and at right age weren’t depreciating much more.
In the end I actually got a 2002 , 325 coupe and lost very little ; a pittance compared to what I saved

I think you are right and I’m only interested if I can see for the right price. I think the next step is to go and test drive some of the future replacements, I.e the 911’s..
As I am concerned that some of the cars within my budget probably won’t actually offer more in many departments compared to the M4...
Then like you said sell for the right price and try purchase a still desirable run around to maintain minimal depreciation on that car.

The first loss is the least loss-get out asap!!
See what WBAC will offer to give you an idea of the worst case scenario.
Some independents will offer decent money, Eastern BMW in Edinburgh are very fair to deal with too.
You might be lucky to get shot of it before Autumn to the trade or privately, but don’t wait longer than that.
I’ve been in your shoes and learned it wise to accept some pain now, rather than greater pain later.

well no-ones got a crystal ball, but i recon your trade price is 30-35k at the mo and in 12 months it'll be 25-30k, long term who knows, there will be a lot of cars coming off 0% PCP deals over the next 2-4years, supply is huge... how much demand there is will dictate prices.. the only thing you can be sure of is that today is the most it will ever be worth.
