I'm picking up my new M2C this Friday and I'm getting some crazy figures back on insurance.

I wouldn't classify myself as high risk; 39, 4 years NCD, live in Kent and the car will be garaged overnight - yet I'm getting figures north of £1k from the price comparison sites.

What's everyone experience and can anyone recommend a cheaper insurance company?

Try playing with the parameters a bit. Oddly, having a car on a private driveway brings the cost down compared to being in a garage. I think it has something to do with being a higher risk of damage moving a car in and out of a garage every day. I always thought it would be cheaper the other way around.

Following the thread anyway as I'm looking at an M2C next. I pay about £400 for my M135i at the minute and while I expect the insurance to go up, I'd not be happy if the quotes all come back north of £600.

Try a more specialised broker. M cars tend to be pretty costly to insure in general.

I've been with sky insurance and pay ~£500 for an e92 m3. Prior to getting this I was paying around £300 for pretty much any car i had, Z4, m135i etc using the stack em high sell em cheap insurance cos like admiral, all these companies wanted £800+ for the M3 and most wouldn't quote at all.

I'm mid 30s, 12 years NCB, decent area etc

Churchill, they were the cheapest on the comparison sites and then cheaper when getting a quote from them directly.

Try Admiral - often dont see them on compare sites.

I've used them for over 8 years, and have all my cars but one with them, including dailies and classics, business cover, they seem to be very competitive, and have sensible excess/cover options, even the aftermarket exhausts on the Ferrari and M3 have not increased the premiums.

I'm in sleepy rural Yorkshire, which may bring significant discounts, but still your price seems excessive to me anyway.

Good Luck.

I'm with Freedom Insurance for my 2016 M2, based in Edinburgh (garaged), 41yrs, 9yrs NCD, 15k miles with 1k Business Class 1.

Price: £478.

I'm happy with that.

It’s got nothing to do with that. Insurance pricing isn’t always a straight line. It will be that people who claim to garage their cars also make the most fault claims for whatever reason.

They were cheapest for me too. Additional voluntary excess of £500 - 9 years NCD and 50 years old my premium was £272 which was cheaper than my 435d

Best quote on Confused for inbound, leased M2 comp DCT - 47 - male - owner = lease company 14 years NCD - SDP + commuting - 2 other cars - wife named driver - on drive at night - open carpark during day - Wiltshire village - 9k miles - protected NCD

Hastings direct - £372 with £595 excess (no legal or breakdown)
Hastings premium - £413 with £500 excess (includes legal & breakdown)
Perf. direct - £428 with £450 excess (no breakdown)
LVE - £449 with £400 excess (no legal, courtesy car or breakdown)

BMW Insure - £411 with £350 excess (includes legal & breakdown) << added on based on above, pretty good product features!!

Seems pretty much the same as my leased Golf GTI which is due back in September and my long departed, old, stbox Jag X-type 3.0

Renewed mine with NFU - includes exhaust modification
£600 but the theft Xs is high at £1k

Wife has just bought a new Golf R - considering they seem very high theft risk, for 15k class 1 business miles it’s cost her £350, so I do think the M2 is expensive

Has anyone had a decent quote for the m2 comp recently? I’m coming back with crazy prices. At one place I’m getting £1.8K where as it was £500 with my 997. Can get slightly under £1K on the comparison sites but wary about using one of the basic insurers (probably cheaper for a reason).

I’m guessing it’s at risk of being stolen rather than a risk of driver, given the 997 cost with the same details.
