F90 M5 Competition
Discussion
Hello
I am currently driving a 530d x drive mainly, and am thinking of an M5.
Would those who have driven one recommend a Competition one, or a regular one with Carbon brakes?
Also are there any options that people consider essential.
I see most who have a new one have also had an F10 version; do you think the new auto gearbox is a good idea in an M5?
In my F10 version, I found the DCT good but not brilliant.
Thanks in advance.

I have to say I had no real intention of buying one but the deal they put together for me was too good too miss out on in the end.
I was car shopping to buy a new car for my wife (either X3 or Q5) and accidentally bought myself the new M5 CP. Amazing how these things happen...Andy M said:

Amazing how these things happen...We went into BMW to have some warranty work done on her X3. Mrs HoHoHo is looking at a new X3, new SQ5 or a lightly used Macan S and I happened to mention I liked the M5 in the showroom..................
Wind on two weeks, I'm in an M5 (not the showroom one to be fair) and she is no closer to making a decision or getting her car

What's your running in procedure?
I'm trying to keep under 5k rpm until the running in service but have had a couple of short squirts...............(and I'm not referring to my trouser dept when I hit the throttle

Personally i'm trying to follow the guidance in the user manual (first time to ever read one). What's your running in procedure?

Keeping under 5500rpm for first 1200 miles. I took it on a long drive from London to Yorkshire and back which put on 600 miles of mostly motorway. (i'm now sat around 700)
Then until 3100 miles "gradually increasing to a continous speed not exceeding 137mph"

The temptation to just floor it is strong though haha
I will always let it warm up properly before driving anywhere, I started doing that when I had Litchfield Type25 Impreza and it has stuck with me. I think it helps maintain the lifespan of the engine.

and this is worth a read: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Personally I keep it below 4,000rpm for the first 500 miles. Below 5,000rpm for the next 500 miles. And then 5,500rpm for the remaining 200 miles. I stay. away from motorways as much as possible and never use more than 50% throttle (the sports displays are good to judge this).
Managed to do 1,200 miles in just under 10 days and have the running-in service booked for this Thursday.
