Went down to Sytner on Saturday to have a little look at some cars. Sat in an M3 convertible and a Z4M. I bloody loved them.
I'm thinking I would prefer the Z4, but doubt I would be able to afford one on my first job out of university. I might be able to, but I really don't know what is going to happen when the time comes. I don't have a clue what job I'm going for.
Anyway, that car was amazing, although I only sat in it, I thought it was brilliant, the steering wheel felt really nice, and I just loved it. The M3 was excellent as well. But I don't really need the rear seats and its a bit more poserish.
I just really wanted a convertible for my next car, so its definately going to be either one of those, more than likely an M3 convertible, then change to a Z4M after that!
I can't wait. Will have to keep the clio for a bit, then see what comes up, but I really can't see myself wanting anything else.
There are some really nice M3s coming around now for £20k.

I managed to bounce out of Uni in to contracting at an equivalent salary of high 20's (pretty good starting salary as a graduate imho).
Bout as his up the M ladder as I'd be able to consider would be an E36
Get saving those loans though, you can manage to afford anything if you really want it I've always found.

I really haven't thought any of it through, like whether I will actually be able to afford anything, but I'll sort that out when the time comes! Very similar situation to me - going into full time work soon and like to plan ahead. I would prefer an E39 M5 - as cheap as 12k now. You can afford these things if its all you spend you money on.

At 22, 5yrs ncd- insurance for me would be £3.5k, which is the same as a facelift 996.
I'd have gone for it if I wasn't stuck doing postgrad. I may be tempted in the summer.

Purchase price= £37500
Plan to keep for 6months/15k (use it to the max while you've got it)
Depreciation= £7500
OPC Check and Warranty= £1500

Finance charges over 6 months assuming nil deposit= £2000
Fuel cost assuming 15mpg (VPower@ £1/litre)= £4550

The E46 M3 is probably a bit quicker/better all round package than a 996 carrera. Nevertheless, I am a little bored of E46s, but the most important factor for myself for me is that when I was 17 (02-03) the 996 was my dream car.

where on earth does a 22yr old post graduate get 21k for 6mths worth of motoring nowadays.i,m truly shocked...i,m nearly 27 live with my parents and earn reasonably good money.if i wasnt thinking about moving out i could get a csl easily but for a 22yr old???surely mate you will be taking home maybe £300-£400 a week at most.

Do you not think that buying a house should be 1st priority rather than an M3? Saddling yourself with a debt for a depreciating asset that will not benefit you in later life is somewhat short sighted and pretty stupid in reality, no offence meant, M3's are nice but they're not worth getting into debt for, no car is
