SC Clearance - Transferable?
Discussion
You are security cleared through your employer/client.
If you leave your clearance will be valid for a period of time (6 months i believe - but don't quote me on that)
If during that 6 months you start with a new company (must be a company that can apply for SC) then the clearance can be transfered easily. If it has lapsed then they must go through the process again.
You cannot apply for clearance yourself - and only certain companies (known as list X companies) can apply to have you cleared.

just out of interest, how would one obtain SC clearance?
I've seen a lot of IT roles on the market that request this, but i don't have it; so i assume that i can't apply for the role?
depends on the company and the roll....I've seen a lot of IT roles on the market that request this, but i don't have it; so i assume that i can't apply for the role?
However it takes ages 3-4 months, so its not like you can join a company and then start on the sc work. Your best bet it to join a company that has some sc and some non sc work. Then tranfer to a project that requires SC they will they pay to get it
your SC is your SC and not the companies! mine for instance is DV clearance and will stay with me whether i leave the company or not,im permanent staff and even contractors on weekly contracts get put though sc and after they finished the job they go ou to work for another company looking for sc.
Can you still get SC clearance if you have a criminal record or if you have bad debt?
I assume that it's just a certificate to say that your not planning on making WMDs and that if you get a govt. job which required SC, you wouldn't plan on going on Guy Fawkes on their ass and make a big hole in the Thames facing side of Parliament.

A lot of the clearance problems can arise when they feel there is some aspect of your life that you can be blackmailed over or give someone some leverage over you. Generally most things are fine as long as you're open/public about them and not trying to hide them.
The interviews for DV and higher clearances can be very blunt with some very personal questions asked.

I have a question about SC clearance.
I've had clearance for 10 years or so, but accidently fell foul of the law, my company dismissed me and my clearance lapsed. got another job, they know all the details and happy for me to start. Applied for SC and going through the process, obviously i've told them everything. Got an interview with the DVA.
i know you want to know about my offence, so i shall tell you. Like some guys i liked looking at adult porn, i thought 16+ was ok, its actually 18+, i had 0.5% of my images classed as under 18, some were said to be under 16 too, but my lawyer said that it was subjective. The police confirmed i never went looking for these images, nor did i frequent those sort of websites either. I would have got a caution, but the police made a a mistake, initially charging me for a more serious offence, which turned out to be wrong (i didn't argue because i never knew what they were referring too). The vast majority of the images were of the lowest level (about 75%), the rest were more serious, but because i thought they were ok, i never worried about having them.
i got a 2 month suspended sentance for one year, a sexual offences prevention order, stops me look at porn on the internet (thats fine, once bitten and all that) i am also on the SOR for 5 years and have to attend a group.
My probation officer has said i am the least worst case she has come across and thinks my punishment is dispportionally heavy compared to my offense (in my opinion of being ignorant, although i don't and won't use it as an excuse, but hopefull an explanation.
i've only ever had a job requiring clearance adn will struggle to get another job outside that relm. given the fact i have been up front and told everyone that needs to know incluidng family, friends, collegues, future employer (hopefully) and DVA, what is the likely hood of having my application for SC rejected? any views?
