Hi All,
I've been made redundant today after approx 16 months of service. It was the first time that I knew my job was at risk so it's come as a bit of a surprise!
I've spoken with my cousin who works in HR and she has concerns about the process they followed so i'd like to talk to a specalist if someone is around and can help me out.
Thanks,
Phill

I'm not a specialist but had to make a lot of redundancies a few years ago in my previous job and had the support of a great HR manager who made sure we stayed fair and legal.
It sounds iffy to me (but get some better info than my opinion - see below) - I wouldn't think you are redundant just like that; even if it's not a selection process (e.g. you are the only person who does your job and it isn't needed any more, or a whole team is being removed) I think you have to have a brief consultation period and 2 or 3 meetings to give you the opportunity to come up with alternatives for the co to consider.
Ideas for getting better info:
- look on the BERR website (used to be the DTI)
- call the citizens advice bureau
- talk to solicitor after that
