RAF Application - additional info section.
Discussion
Hello all,
I'm filling out an application for the RAF and I've come to the end section which contains a section for any additional information.
The exact wording is "Please use this space for any additional information on the above questions that you feel may be relevant to your application "
The above questions are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice of career with the RAF.
Do you the PH massive think I should use this to speak about my motivation and reason for wanting to join worded in much the same way as a covering letter and if so how formal/informal should I go?
Your thoughts?

If you are applying for the RAF Regt, tell them you are great at sweeping hangers with a broom and standing around for hours on end with nothing to do and then being given a load of crap jobs 5 minutes before knock off ;-)
Issues?

I would suggest you give additional information that would be relevant to your dream list of careersI'm filling out an application for the RAF and I've come to the end section which contains a section for any additional information.

A quick example being:
1) The reason i want to join up as an Armourer, is that during my summer breaks I enjoyed drinking my friends vomit at beer calls. I also am well versed at ensuring that whilst on holiday I have a special wagon all to myself and only allow other vomit drinkers to use it. I also specialize in waiting until canopies are fitted, funcs are carried out, before announcing that the rocket packs in the seats need changing thus causing the maximum disruption.
2) If there isn't an opening as an Armourer my second choice would be Adminer. I feel I would excel at this job as I have under taken work experience in a busy office environment. I think that the experience I gained there would be perfect for working in a section that specializes at losing any paperwork handed to them within a blink of an eye and then deny all knowledge. Additionally I have been working on my smug face so that if i meet a greasey techie i can smugly announce that i'm on the same pay band as him.
3) Finally my final choice would be to join up as an Aircraft technician, I am well versed at being a cocky little know it all and believe I would make the perfect liney though being a modern man there is no way i'l pish myself for a pound. Once i've worked out that the heavy desk works late on nights I'll be more than happy to transfer to the Light trade desk for early stacks and a couple of games of ukkers. Once returning to Tossford i'll swan about the place telling people that i'm on my fitters course, when everyone else knows you'd never have made it as a Jelly Tot. (mind you neither did i but why let that get in the way of a pish take)
Anyway have fun, i do hope you enjoy a joke, if you don't then don't join one

Dear god, what am I getting myself into!
I've put what I think I've done that is relevant to the post, what I want from life, adventure as you say etc etc.
I've an initial meeting friday morning now so hopefully all will go well.
I've applied for personnel support
quite simply i hate you!! Dear god, what am I getting myself into!

In the end why not, you'll have a nice warm office, high band pay and birds (in the loosest sense of the word) too look at. You wont find yourself out on the line getting cold wet and covered in oil at all times of the day, and there are some brilliant posts to be had. NATO HQ, SQN Admin endless detachments to the sandpit etc etc. You get all this and free shoes!!

edit: just one bit of advice, make sure you are joining into a job you actually want to do. Don't be swayed by the AFCO, they will tell you that you can join up as one thing and easily transfer to another trade once you're in. Utter b*ws, i know of only one guy that has been able to do this and that was because the PTI trade was crying out of mirror polishers whilst my trade was running at 110% manning hence the move.

Any ideas how long it can take from initial application to acceptance?
Not sure at the moment as it is over 10 years since i joined up, at the time i joined up there was a huge recruitment drive so my date of attestation was brought forward by 3 months. I think from memory it was about 4 or 5 months. Don't be in a rush to join, the party will be going on what ever time you arrive.
