i think lady hayles is/was in insolvency.
a friend works in the same area. he got into it by accident but stayed as [he says] there aren't that many insolvency practitioners in the country so once he's qualified he can set up on his own and rake in the money.
he does get an inordinate amount of stick from the rest of us for making innocent old ladies homeless

It's the official receivers office, professional grade, not admin grade so theoretically you could become an Officaial Receiver if you do enough exams. Or leave and set up in practice as an Insolvency Practicioner.
I have friend who's done it for 20 years near. She's worked in afew offices.
Where are you based, it will dictate which offices you are available to work in as there's only about 35 in the country I think.
You need to be prepared to do your accountancy exams as you work (you get a day off week to study!) and you need to pass them. You will be amazed initially at the idiots and scumbags you will have to deal with and you can if unlucky get tied up with some right nasty bits of work, as indeed do HMRC guys. Usual Civil SErvice politics, but pension is great as is leave etc.
Definately one of the best Civil Service jobs you'll find out there imo.
