I've just sent my CV to an agency, which they have sent back asking me to change a few details. Just wondering what the PH idea on it is:

Firstly, Should you put an expected salary on your CV? Or only put this if asked?

Swcondly, I went to a Girls grammar school to study A-Levels, thus I put on my CV 'Maidstone Grammar School for Girls'. They say I should take out 'for girls' as it may look strange to employers. IMO, thats the name of the school, so thats what I'll put.

Any ideas? Should I change it or leave it as it is?

Doesn't sound right that they're asking you to change your CV.

I wouldn't/haven't put my expected salary on a CV, definitely never heard of anyone doing that either.

Shouldn't be an issue to put the name of the school down, it's not unheard of for all girl schools to have a few boys

They never look as far down as what school you went to so it doesn't matter if you change it.
Under salary expectations I have been advised to put "open to offers" always seems to be fine.

I'm sure they'll just change it when they forward to potential employers anyway! Sceptical? Me?

Thats what I've put - Expected Salary : £xxxx (negotiable)
Don't see any problem with it myself

I've never felt any need to put expected salary on there.

Nope I have never & will never put my salary on my CV. I also hate it when recruiters (IT) start with "so what are you on now.." - I'm always looking for market rate for my skills in that role in that location. What I currently earn be it higher or lower isn't relevant.

Not sure what line of work you are in, but i have worked through agencies on short term engineering contracts for a few years now and there one common thing about all the agencies i have used, there all out for as much money as they can get. Human nature i guess as thats the only reason i leave one contract for another

Most of the companies i work at, it soon becomes very obvious that the contractors can all be on different rates, it depends what you negociate.

I never have the salary on my CV and for the online sites such as www.monster.co.uk where it definately does ask for a salary, i make it so its so clearly wrong, they always question it, which is when i tell them, its negociable.

As for the schools, not that important, unless you have only just left, they may recognise it if there a local company, its not going to matter.

Good luck

I wouldn't put expected salary on there, but I wouldn't put negotiable either. Just leave it out and discuss that when the time comes.

I would normally say put the name of the school down, but if you are a man who went to a school called "... for girls", I must say I can see their point. Sad to say. It's about setting expectations with the employer and if they're expecting a girl and a bloke shows up, then it could get things off to a strange start.

The consultant is quite possibly thinking of a particular client where they think this could be an issue. If you're still uncomfortable with it I would ask them to explain why they want you to remove this.
