Having been working as a graphic designer on both agency/client side for the last 9 years, my current role is quite a nice job as it's paid well, nice bunch of people to work with and it fits my lifestyle but as everyone would like to get paid more it is inevitable moving on might be the best way of securing a role in a higher level and pay.

Noticed a position for a 'desktop publisher' for a well established Financial company. The salary is considerably more (£6k) but the job description does sound rather dull.

There are snags as per usual if changing jobs, it may turn to be absolute bks and in this financial climate changing might be a risk. A mate suggests that staying might be better and I'd be better doing more freelance jobs for the extra cash whilst staying in my current job which I do still enjoy.

I still want to work in a role which has a balance of creative work with the everyday 'bread and butter' jobs. This role is tempting but only for the pay. Would any of you working in design ever consider 'dumbing down' for the cash?

Apply for the job, go take a look and (if offered) then decide. Better to make a informed decision of the actual role and how it compares than wonder now- for all you know you may not even get an interview!!

Always good to interview from time to time just to brus up on whats happening around you.

Supposed there is no harm in applying and for the interview experience.

Do it while you still value money more than family and have the energy and drive. There will come a time when you want to do less work and spend more time with your family. Or just completely er... buy in... and live the life you've always wanted to so use these opportunities to build up your savings... much like I have.

IMO FS jobs are usually a lot more stress, a lot more grief, more hours for a bit more money.
I've not met many people that really enjoy their job in FS, and most feel tied to it for the cash.
Not the best time either to be joining an FS firm either, LIFO...

As amir says, nothing to be lost by applying and finding out more but I wouldn't touch an FS job for £6k more than my current salary!
