Just a point of etiquette really, I am about to apply for a substantive position with an organisation. I have been freelancing for the last couple of years, but prior to this I worked for this organisation on a fixed term contract. I left at the end of the contract. In terms of a referee it is usual to include your present or last employer. In my case this would be the director who set up my fixed term contract, but he is still the director and will no doubt be part of the appointment panel.

Can I use him as a referree as my last employer or should I select someone else, I should say that we had a good relationship and as far as I am aware we had no negative issues

Advice appreciated

Well you could always just ask the director if he's happy to be a referee!

Depends on the corporate governance arrangements at the firm. I'd doubt their business conduct rules would exclude him assessing your application or interviewing you, but if he was one of your workplace mates it might be more of a problem.
