Advice on CV would be lovely
Discussion
I've just put together a new CV and was wondering whether, if any of you have 5 minutes to spare, you may be able and willing to have a quick look over it and let me know where you think I've gone wrong?
Now's not exactly the greatest time to be looking for work, so I need to make sure it's as good as it can be!
Thanks,
Sam

Sam,
It seems my last CV worked for me quite well generating a fair bit of interest, however my work experience and lifestyle are somewhat at odds with yours (rowing the Atlantic FFS!
).
It really should be aimed at the area or even the job you want but there are a few basics which I think are true across most industries.
I'm more than happy to give your CV a look over and see if there is anything I would consider wrong or off-putting on a basic level.
Is there a particular area you are looking to move into?

I'm not really sure what area to go into at the moment, which isn't making things easier! There are various possibilities that may come off over the next 9 months, so I'm not overly concerned about ending up in an industry that I'll be interested in staying in for a prolonged period of time, but I suppose that if I had a free choice, it would probably be something along legal lines.I'll drop you an email and you can hopefully rip my CV to shreds!!

email it to me
id be happy to take a look
i find that many cv's are actually self-derogatroy but in very subtle ways with very slight choices of certain words or phrases...
its often almost impossible for the writer to see this for himself as well

I coach people how to apply for and get jobs, as you already know the first hurdle is to get your CV noticed and hopefully shortlisted.
I would suggest that you ensure that you tailor your CV to match the job spec as advertised, be careful to not lie as this will be found out at interview, be honest, however make sure that you highlight your own strengths that match what they are looking for.
Dont write pages of info, I promise no one will read it (unless you have been specifically asked to give competency based answers) and dont use the smallest font available stick with 12 font
There are plenty of useful tips on the web if you google cv writing tips
good luck
