I know it's a bit of a long shot, But I have been working as a Design Engineer for three years, since graduating with a M.Eng (Hons) and am looking for a change of scenery.
Currently I am using Solidworks daily, designing new products, making prototypes, testing and performing trial fits - essentially, I am fully involved from the concept stage, right through to when our products go on sale. If any of our customers have any techinal or design based queries, I am also involved closely with the.
Initially, I get hold of a vehicle, measure any required data using our reverse engineering arm, and design a product to fit from the CMM data.
In Uni I developed an improved bodyshell for a se7en car, based on practical wind tunnel tests, CFD software and manufacturing constraints, I studied the effects of spoilers/diffusers/fairings etc..so am familiar with complex 3D modelling (both solid and surface), meshing, analysing and optimisation.
If anyone knows of any vacancies, or has any info/suggestions, I would be most gateful.
I have just bought my first property near Shrewsbury, but would be willing to relocate within the UK, or anywhere worldwide for the right position.

Thanks

Tom

Hey Tom,
we are currently recruiting design engineers. We are a design consultancy, and we are involved in the automotive industry. We have a small manufacturing plant, where we churn out things like show car interiors etc. Our work is diverse - we are currently designing 2 showcar interiors, a wind turbine, a designer table (retails £250k) a baby cot and some boeing undercarriage stuff.
We use catia v5, which isnt a million miles away from solidworks. We have an in-house CAE team, who use NASTRAN, ABAQUS and Ls-Dyna. Based in the midlands.
let me know if this is interesting...
