Hello!
Thought I'd start some research early. My current contract finishes early next year and I need to start thinking about where to go and what to do.
I currently work for the British Antarctic Survey as a Mobile Plant Technician, vehicle mech in other words. I've just accepted a position managing the vehicle section here for the upcoming season. I'm based in the Antarctic which is a pretty tough environment with only 18 of us here isolated for 10 months of the year. I will have worked for BAS for 3 years and been in the Antarctic for most of that time. I run a huge fleet of diverse vehicles from heavy plant through farm machinery to quads and skidoos. I quite happily work very long hours here, whatever is necessary to get the job done.
I studied Industrial Design at University but have never done anything with it. Most of my adult life I have spent running expeditions for Overland companies, I have driven through almost 80 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the middle East and South America.
I am 34, have no ties, I have no problem moving anywhere for a decent job. I am incredibly practical and find that common sense is the biggest key to solving most problems.
Obviously there is a lot more to me than what I have written here but just trying to get some ideas. Anybody got any suggestions or ideas? I'm open to anything really!
Cheers for any help.
Mat.
