Does anyone know when I'd be expected to work until if I handed in my notice now? Would it be autumn half term or Christmas?

I teach in a primary school in Hampshire, if it makes any difference.

What's in your terms and conditions?

Google is helpful in terms of finding guidelines, but I'd appreciate advice from people who've been in a similar situation.

How likely is it that I will actually work out my notice? What are my rights/responsibilities? I don't want to bank on having six months to find a new job only to be told I have to be out by September.

It will be in your terms and conditions however being a teacher I would think you would have to give enough notice so that suitable cover could be arranged. Leaving a school in the lurch would not look good to any future employer

Don't want to sound like a broken record but your responsibilities are in your terms and conditions. As for your rights, you have lots which wouldn't fit here. If by rights you mean your ability to leave earlier than your stated notice, then there is no such right. You might reach a compromise though.

If you resign before the 31st May 2007 you will be free from your contract in september. You only need to work until the end of the term, and yes you will still be paid the summer hols biggrin
