WTD - Merchant Navy Deck Officers
Discussion
Hi PH'ers,
I know you are all speed freaks, but just in case there's someone out there that likes sailing around at 6 MPH for a living here's the job for you. Or perhaps you're bored with driving containers around dangerous parts of the world and want to remember why you went to sea in the first place.
The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) requires a full time watch keeping Bosun (3rd Officer) to sail onboard its barques; LORD NELSON and TENACIOUS. The vessels operate in NW European waters during the UK Spring/Summer months and Canary Islands/Caribbean in Winter months.
As a watch keeping deck officer, the minimum qualification is STCW 95 Officer of the Watch (Yacht). Holders of non-UK certificates of competency must also possess a valid Certificate of Equivalent Competency issued by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency and be fluent in English.
Please do not apply if you do not posses these qualifications as a minimum.
The JST is a UK registered charity with the aim of integration of able-bodied and physically disabled people including wheelchair users. We achieve this on our 2 tall ships. We ensure that everyone on board is able to play a full part in the day-to-day operation of the ship - no one on board is a passenger and everyone works to the best of their ability. All members of the permanent crew interact fully with our trainees and are expected to encourage and assist them in order to achieve our aims. Further information about the JST, its’ aims and the vessels can be found on the JST’s website at www.jst.org.uk
Relief Deck Officers
Interested in the above but don’t want a full time job? We are always on the look out for Relief OOW’s to fill gaps on both our vessels when our permanent staff are on leave. Voyages range from a week to 4 weeks in duration.
Please contact me for more info.
Cheers
