Job hunting tips

Currently looking for a new senior technology role (perm ideally) after taking VR from my last role and having a few months off, and there's some 'unwritten rules' I'm struggling to get my head around.
1. Mostly worked in consulting over the last decade of so and had multiple clients in a year. I'd say perhaps 15 or so clients across 10 years. So whilst they are prestigious brands in their own right, I wasn't employed by them. Do I name them? List them?
2. Tailored CVs. I understand the need to tweak my CV for specific roles to emphasise key priorities. But do I rename the file with the name of the company and role? It's quite hard to manage multiple CVs if they all have the same filename.
3. LinkedIn contacts. OK it's straightforward when it relates to an open role in their organisation as it's an obvious 'in'. But if it's just re-connecting to see what contacts they may know of hiring or growing - it feels little awkward as I'm not offering anything in return. And, being honest, I've often not spoejn to these people in years. any thoughts? Should I just be straight, blunt but polite about it?
