Have my old job overpaid me?
Discussion
Left company A in November of this year. My last day of working for them was the 25/11 but I had holidays to use so my last official day of employment was the 2/12 and I started with company B on 9/12.
This morning I noticed Company A have paid me a full month's salary presumably for December whereas I would have thought all I would be owed from them would be a few days in November and December unless I'm being dim?

It’s rare to get paid in advance, do you normally get paid by the 19th of the month for the full current month ?
At company A I would always get paid on the 28th of each month. They have likely paid everyone early this month as it's December. I know you still get paid for holidays but I still feel like they've paid me for the full month of December when I think it should be less. Orchid1 said:

In which case they have over paid you, sounds like you should have got around 6% of typical monthly salary.Consider it Xmas bonus, until they ask for it back.

My guess is that your line manager notified HR/Payroll too late for your Dec salary to be pro-rata'd. Or HR/Payroll never actioned it. Or they think you're STILL working there.
Theoretically this "should" get picked up by the Budget Holder when they see the December Management Accounts, at which point they should notify HR/Payroll who should start the recovery process. However it depends on how tight a ship Finance operate.

You should have received a P45 when leaving the old company. If you have then should show the full amount earned this current year with the , if not then ask and they may realise what they have done.
IME it's too early for a P45. The OP was owed 2 days pay for December so he would have needed to appear on the December payroll run. P45s are only run AFTER the payroll has been closed which won't happen until after pay day. He might get one in the next few days. However given that he got a full month's pay I don't think he's marked as a Leaver.Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
