Hi all,

I am after some advice in regards to online training.

A change in work circumstances means I should ideally brush up on some of my IT skills. The last bit of leaning I did was back in 2005, my degree.

I'm keen to get get in to the Azure/ AWS space and want to do get some certification.

So far I have come across CBT Nuggets, Udemy, Pluralsight and Acilearning.

I would be keen to hear peoples experiences in the above, or any other recommendations.

Udemy and MIcrosoft Learn. Never pay full price for udemy, stick in wishlist / basket and wait a week for them to email you.

aCloudGuru / PluralSight aren't bad either.

For all certs, get on the right subreddit and check recommends there.

IT Skills and Azure / AWS are really different things.
What specifically do you need to learn and to what depth?

Tbh, I want to an understanding cloud offerings. In my current role everything lives on prem and I feel rather de-skilled.

I am in the market for a new role and would like to venture in to the Azure/ AWS space, I know I dont have the relevant work experience, but I am hoping some certifications will help my cause.

For the AWS path,

Courses,

I've done his and the ACG equivalent, and found the Udemy one was better.

Practice Exams,

Don't bother with the AWS samples - they are nowhere near the depth required to pass. Buy practice exams and keep doing them until you can score 80%-90%+ consistently. Use the analysis tools to work out which topics you're weak on and redo the course sections.

I wouldn't bother with the Foundation level exams, go straight to Associate.

+1 for Tutorial Dojo. I also like Whizlabs.

For Azure, John Saville on Youtube is awesome - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpIn7ox7j7bH_OFj7...

Not used A Cloud Guru for a while, I heard it had gone a bit crap.

If doing Azure I'd maybe start with AZ-900 - it's very basic, but would give you a basic coverage. Then look at AZ-104 (this isn't an easy exam however).

You'll also need relevant experience - these certs alone won't help you get a job but they might help you get a foot in the door.

I did AZ-305 last week so now have a shiny new Azure Solutions Architect cert. Need to renew my AWS SAA soon so back to the study in a month or so I think!

Sadly, yes.

They were originally THE place to go, and I think they got a bit complacent, were very slow to update courses to reflect reality, etc, though they did seem to be finally addressing that. They were bought-out by Pluralsight last year.
