Notice period question
Discussion
I was made redundant on Thursday 7th Dec (at 15.30 if that makes a difference). My notice period is 2 weeks.
When should my last day at work be? Weds 20th or Thurs 21st?
As the company has been particularly miserly and not paid me more than the legal minimum, I want to ensure they don't even get to scrimp on a single day.
Thanks!

Sorry to hear this Puggit. I was in a similar situation a few years ago, if you are customer facing, ask for gardening leave as why would the company want a disgruntled employee talking to customers.
Or alternatively, go off ill with stress.
Good luck with everything.
Edit - just saw you're on gardening leave - good start, get you CV ready for the New Year

If you're on gardening leave, it doesn't matter does it? You aren't doing any work.
If you have any company property, tell them to come and get it.
They've paid me the minimum possible redundancy and it's cheesed me off royally. It's a question of money, not my time If you have any company property, tell them to come and get it.
I will have worked 2 years 11 months and 21 days by my final day. They are paying 2 weeks notice and 3 weeks statuary pay. I also worked 3 months as a contractor before I joined.
Royally annoyed.

If your notice period is two weeks and it started on Thursday, 7th December at 15:30, your last day at work should be Thursday, 21st December. This is because the notice period includes the day on which the notice is given, making the 21st the last day of the two-week period. When should my last day at work be? Weds 20th or Thurs 21st?

Most companies seem to only pay the minimum now. I've known quite a few on six figure salaries to only get that after being with a company for over ten years. Things seemed to change somewhere in the mid-noughties when previously quite often people would get one month's pay per year of employment, plus gardening leave, with the redundancy limited to £30k for tax reasons.
That £30k tax threshold is still the same!

Not only that, but if I had made it to Dec 31st then that would have added another year of service - and I also worked as a contractor for 3 months before signing as an employee. Legal, but leaving a very sour taste. That £30k tax threshold is still the same!
