Ending of last 2 jobs have not been great but I'm in a job seeking situation
As background I had an email from 2nd to last jobs team leader that had some motiviation to me leaving, sort of gives you a fair idea of this sociopath I was dealing with.
I had an email from team leader in "banter" in his words with a poem mentioning my name and also describing as an alcoholic in the style of a famous song for one of his "games".
He had games to break down barriers I guess or something, always played along with it and he asked for ideas and so it was suggested back to him doing your own song/lyrics.
I specifically suggested for it not to be personalised.
This was compounded by other matters such as seeing poor education of the team some who played very dumb and wanted bailing out all the time - and eventually including one of them got promoted to join me in being one of the only seniors for the team despite really being a 1st level.
I didn't take the matter further on the abuse above, but realised with other factors enough was enough and left at that point.
I had some other health concerns too so felt like I needed a break anyway, partly addressed although I still am not 100%
I had a most recent job which I did well in some counts ( got no less than 3 recommendations from some senior end directions on some situations where I was dropped into escalations blindly by IT mgr ) but the IT mgr himself and the company/role was frankly pants which I realise in hindsight
After 9 months of him stringing along / somehow finding new reasons to fail probations eventually enough was enough and if they hadn't have ended it, I would....on plus it did push my looking into stuff like azure so now have foundations on that.
I don't think I was his favourite so to speak and didn't fit in their squad of nerds and also some overrecruitment may have occurred there but whatever.
I'm financially really pretty secure ( we have paid our house, I have my own cars and savings and wife works but a lesser salary).
I've been looking since August and still not cemented anything.....
frustratingly just had an interview opportunity which after 3rd one was down to 3 but I wasn't the one.
Another one for a prestigious company but I was unsettled by a test format so that went badly ( test for the 3rd interview one must have been well ).
I'm in IT/ tech support / sql but I could really do something more aligned to what I want but not sure how - but also my increasing age ( in my 50s now ) and my health isn't improving so don't want something permanently on my feet / 7 hrs a day and more used to remote work.
Or I'm thinking if only I could do something part time but what ???
The lack of ANY money contributed by me except savings/bond winnings and JS is grinding on me and would like to have some kind of focus again.
I've done some courses and reading on tech subjects including azure database....
But actually not sure where I'm going now..... as I like cars could I look at breaking/restoring building cars except I don't have perfect background on that, I've replaced cylinder heads etc but not welded etc.
Is there any money in breaking or repairing spares repairs cars for instance ? Perhaps deluding myself there

East Midlands. I'm in a situation where I'm more flexible than most as mentioned due to my financial position, wouldn't rule out lower salary jobs but have to like what I'm doing.... I did almost consider karting supervision
I've been considering further animal welfare volunteering but haven't recently as you aren't supposed to do that on JS and I've sorned my own cars anyway as I'm not driving anywhere until its clear I have something secured - I can use my wifes car that I bought her for interviews
I'm not stacking warehouses for some stty entity like Amazon tho. If I'm going to be paid peanuts I'd prefer it was for something more ethical or at least rewarding in other ways than salary
I like music but struggling to find anything relevant ( not tried tuition on guitar yet ).
Used to remote work/IT so thats primarily what I'm trying to follow as like for like and ideally would prefer to do more skilled technical than "product" 1st tier support, with database support involvement ideally

Tech support for small businesses?
Self employed? Never done anything like that directly and not sure about means to go about itKeep it simple, offer a service, keep receipts and invoices, record everything, learn to market.

I've had no end of interviews recently.....went to 3rd one for a place which was down to 3 people I just wasn't "it"......
Have some others in the pipeline now so think I will see how they pan out....not sure how comfortable I am with the self idea.
Good to hear, though it is a good moment for self reflection about how you feel about not working. I hope you do find something that gives you a challenge. But, what about next time (or retirement) what's your plan B, sounds like you still like learning new stuff. Why not buy a scapper and take it apart and try to sell all the components, see how hard/easy it is and what time/tools etc it really takes. Have some others in the pipeline now so think I will see how they pan out....not sure how comfortable I am with the self idea.
Low risk and a trial run ?
Good luck with the interviews
