Paying Norwegian tax....
Discussion
Anyone familiar with Norwegian tax? I've been in and out of Norway many times and never worried about it but we're about to send some technicians over there and we're being told they may have to pay Norwegian tax.
Surely if a UK employee, paid in the UK travels over there to complete some work they aren't liable for local tax? The way I've always understood it is that if you are paid by a Norwegian company and work in Norway then you're liable, but not if you're there temporarily and aren't working for Norwegians.
I know there is a double payment treaty between Norway and the UK but I'm not sure if that applies to this.
Anyone got any direct experience of this?

That is correct. It is no different to you having a holiday there but spending each day on emails sorting work stuff out.
There are rules around remote working in other nations, length of stay, etc, and it can get a little tricky if the UK company has a locally registered branch, but from what you've described I'd suggest that these would not apply.
The only thing to check is travel insurance as some providers do not cover for business trips (colleague paid £5k as a result of serious food poisoning in Saudi some years back, thinking his normal travel insurance would cover it!).

You need to pay taxes if you become tax resident - check what the rules are make sure you stay on whichever side of them you want to.
