As above what good careers are out there without going to university ? Looking for ideas and success stories ?

Basically looking for a career change I currently work in the manufacturing industry and just feel wasted if am honest doing the same thing day in day out . It does have few positives pay is decent, plenty of overtime and it is only few Miles away from my house but there doesn’t seem to be much progression.

Thanks

But it’ll still be the “same thing day in day out”.

I didn’t go to uni, I had a place but couldn’t wait to leave normal education.

From 18 to 22 I got in to sales with a copier paper company selling paper over the phone then….at 23 I was ready to do what I always wanted to do.

I became a financial advisor and later specialised in mortgages. Any hard worker should go over £100k quite quickly if they can do it.

gigolo! Money, pleasure and lots of time experiencing different personality's, pursuits and activities.

Shouldn't feel wasted or bored and need no Uni qualifications!

What do you mean exactly by "going to university"? Pretty much everyone has a degree now so just lie if you think that's what they want. Ie, a box ticking exercise. Or do you mean proper qualifications like medical or law, as opposed to gender studies and sports science?

If the former, if it gets your foot in the door then who cares? I can't see anybody checking to see whether your 2:2 art therapy degree from Kingston University in 1986 is bogus.

A promotion or internal move ar your current company?
Use the skills to move into a different role?
I've just left manufacturing leadership over to a quality/investigation role.

Since when did most University degrees amount to very much out in the real world ?
Many employers soon realise that someone with good common sense is often far more worthwhile.

It’s been a requirement in most decent entry level jobs for years and years. Some firms becoming less picky on it but you’d have to be exceptional. I doubt there’s more than a handful of people in our company without a degree.

No university degree here. I just applied to the jobs I wanted and hoped to get through the door and be able to prove myself.

It worked out well

I meant a proper degree . But good to hear that people are doing well without going to university.

Been looking at progression within my current work but not that easy . If you are good at your job they like to keep you there .

I started as an office junior when I was 18. I am now 39 and a director of technology for a very large company.

I also have a few friends who didn't go in both technology and finance positions.

I would recommend training as a programmer, business analyst etc. Or doing some accountancy training. You don't need a degree necessarily.

Has to be a trade surely - get a sparky/gas certification, spend 24m working for a corporate/apprentice to learn the ropes and you'd then be pulling 6 figures if you put the time in (and live near a major population).

Equally applies to other trades - trees, plaster, bricky's etc but generally a lot dirtier and not quite as well paid

Thought about a trade but not sure there are many companies willing to take on a adult apprentice . A would imagine they will all want school leavers .

Don't write it off - a friend (in his mid-30's) is currently an apprentice sparky
