I gave up a long standing position approaching 10 years last year, couldn't hack the egos in close management anymore although the company itself was ok.

Took me six months to find another position which suited me fairly well to have a break and not short of cash.

Back to square one unfortunately.....some silliness with discussions like only 87% on communication skills after been carefully monitored on some metrics for performance and 9 months into probation.

Place and requirements didn't suite me either I could rant for about a page of how rubbish it was and badly recruited but there you go, so I wasn't gutted.
They have less than 3.0 currently on employee reviews on Indeed.

50s now but I feel a young 50s, I'm heavily into music etc. Don't need a big paying job if at all have savings but not a great position with pensions.
Been into software, almost a mind to get into what is possible with audio and AI? Or helping people/animals. Just big salaries aren't important.
What to do, what to do.

Less the pensions issue you mentioned, seems like you’ve got fairly free reign to try what you might most enjoy! Don’t overthink it maybe and follow your heart? What sort of role would excite you the most?

I don't know I guess perhaps music would be nice, but being realistic settling for something to pocket to make us more comfortable in onsetting old age.

Its hard to find excitement for anything in my time of life now, my energy is becoming waned for anything 100% business oriented....
as Dolly said "9 to 5, yeah, they got you where they want you"
I listen to a lot of Katatonia ( not with a C) which sums up how I'm feeling mood wise right now a little down however not defeated.

I have had my own health issues recently had something like sciatica type back issues ( probably partly helped with a career in IT sitting down).
4x chiro appointments down and finally back to reasonably normal, and years of building up other issues like eczema making me feel both distracted but
To add this this we had father in law diagnosed with terminal cancer which I let the employer know along with my own health concerns but they had their own priorities

I feel more priority towards more ethical directions in future would be nice but not sure what this could be....
or more fulfilling doing something in music but unlikely....I'm good with animals but late to be doing anything really with that.
Realistically may have to face similar positions with remote work online.....
I did see a "minimum wage" position for karting locally but the min wage whilst also doing 8am til 10pm sort of put me off biggrin

I'm glad though to move away from last employer who were helping firms like Bovis homes who are doing their utmost to eat up all green areas and in the news locally cutting down protected trees....
I care less about making profit for ungrateful companies and would rather make a pittance ? Just something to allow me the occasional bottle of rum biggrin

How about something like a postman or supermarket home delivery driver, just for something to do? Something to get some money in whilst you think about you want to do next

Yeah I guess I should do some kind of driving job or something....not pressed for cash at the moment... even savings / NS and I - bringing in interest which goes to giving the wife shopping funds, whilst she works also and pays other stuff and house is paid for tbh....

Also considered pet sitting and walking, already doing this at the moment along with being a good little housemanwife lols to help the wife out ( cooking cleaning ) as she has had a bit of a bad back and coughing fit this week
( Drs don't seem to think its anything yet but got to keep an eye I mentioned to her she should test for covid ).

What line of business was this company in? Measurement at that level sounds like it was rotten to the core!
