IT contracting inside IR35 - accountants
Discussion
I've been contracting in IT for a year now, inside IR35. My tax affairs are not overly complex and the only allowances i would bother to claim for is the sorts of things pertaining to working from home e.g. a percentage of energy bills etc. Is there any benefit to me to using an accountant/tax adviser other than the cheapest self assessment service? Is that only worth it for more complicated tax situations e.g. the 'outside' crew?
I only ask as I had used taxscouts for a few years and they were fine but it was very transactional... no advice as such, or 'did you know you could claim for' or 'you're over the threshold for' type pointers. This is fine but i felt i might be missing out on advice... so i searched for recommendations on accountants that could advise, and used a different accountant which ended up costing twice as much and they ended up putting a graduate accountant on it and he tried to get me to reduce even the simple allowances I had entered. Still no advice given. Seems like this was not a positive move for me?

My two penneth
(1) Inside IR35 forget claiming for anything. Too time consuming and your time is precious. Suck it up, continually look for outside roles. I took an absolute bath on an inside role a couple of years ago. Halved my normal take home but things were tough then.
(2) Outside IR35. Carry on as normal claiming business expenses, travel etc.

i don't really have an issue with inside roles... maybe i am on my own on that one. The types of roles I do are not really deliverable based roles in entireity. I am happy with the higher rates for inside as compensation for the difference in IR35 status and all it results in. (1) Inside IR35 forget claiming for anything. So, I am not looking for advice on getting a different type of role, I am more looking for advice based on the roles I have been doing.
