🏁🏁Calling all Volunteers! 🏁🏁
The Festival of Speed is just around the corner (13th - 16th July) and we have AM & PM Grandstand Stewarding positions on offer!
A great way to gain entry into the festival… a 6/6.5 hour shift (positions with views of the track still on offer!), then rest of the day is yours to enjoy! You will receive;

• An entry wristband on the day of your shifts
• Camping (for those 30+ miles from site)
• A daily lunch bag
• Uniform for the duration of the event

If you are available to volunteer and would like more information, please do get in touch via event.staffing@goodwood.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Can you just do one day, or do you have to do all of them?

It's a shame because that was also on my mind. I do weekly charity work elsewhere plus have other commitments that would mean I can only do one afternoon!

So you want *volunteers* (for positions which you'd previously advertised as paid roles) AND they have to be available for 4 days straight? You've kind of got your priorities in the wrong order haven't you?

I can volunteer my time for one or two days. Does that work for you?

I did it a few years ago. Four days would kill you its hard work outside all day long days. Unrealistic to ask for four days. You are encouraged, asked to face the crowd so if you do that you see nothing.

I know what you're saying but those wiling to volunteer are likely to be enthusiasts or at least interested in the event so aren't going to be stood there looking bored senseless wondering how they'll spend their min wage for the day and not give a toss if everyone else is having a nice time. They're getting free camping, free lunch and four days access to a major motoring event that they'll probably get to see more of than those paying.

If I had the time, I'd sign up!

Having done it you absolutely don't get to see more than those paying. It's flippin hard work and as stated above you have to face the crowd not the track .

I used to live near Silverstone, and signed up for paid work as a steward with an events management company. I did quite a few smaller meetings, and 2 F1 weekends.

Hard work, manning the gates, car parks, and grandstands. The early starts were a proper pain in the backside, and I got to see very little actual racing.

An experience, but I wouldn't call it enjoyable.

Asking for free labour at such an event is a cheek in my opinion.

It's not even balanced time off and a wrist band for a day you aren't working.

FOS is playtime for the rich and powerful, why not get the plebs to work here for free. No point paying them, they probably can't count up very well anyway.

Did litterpicking for the british GP back in the late 90s as a student. About 30 of us started...

.. turned around and only a few of us left. The rest... dissappeared into ths crowd.

As mentioned in another post they charge you a full ticket price to volunteer and then refund after the event. Where do I sign up?

It is standard for any such volunteering role, including festivals such as Glastonbury.
Seems fair to me, you get your money back in return for some unpaid work and get to enjoy the event.
