RAF recruitment problems?

NHS property services doing the same at the moment. Big drive on women being in the maintenance side. They were after a maintenance person with handyman skills etc. A few guys got interviewed who were all experienced and currently handymen etc but then somehow that turned into a woman getting the job with no experience whatsoever of any skill. If any women are wanting a trade then your pretty much guaranteed to be accepted.
It’s discrimination but one which is supposedly accepted.
What’s the point of an interview if you have no chance of getting through. I think it’s a cruel process to give someone hope of getting a job.
Should be the best person for the job regardless of gender or race.

When I was first joining the Police on 2007 it was a long slog to join. I was part of a forum where lots of people updated on their progress.
Avon and Somerset I believe had temporarily paused offers to those identifying as white males in favour of those who were non-white.
Considering it took applicants over two years many were really angry and rightly so.
I've also seen in the police things like armed response with "Asian only open days".
I'm incredibly inclusive in my views, very liberal and I love diversity - genuinely. But it really leaves a bad taste when I see this. I've also seen fast track non-white people and mentoring schemes only available to non-white folk.
"Positive discrimination" is how they label it. I prefer just "discrimination"
Edit: just wanted to add that my only issue here is the barring of others. Whatever your background. People get too caught up in skin colour. Diversity includes autistic people, pregnant females, anyone with something which sets them slightly away from others.

Fantastic, not on ability pure and simple but potentially putting someone of a lower calibre in defence/control of a multi million pound weapons system? Wow.
A very similar thing happened in South Africa back in the 90's (and is possibly still happening).Loads of barely qualified people 'of colour' were placed into middle management jobs, and the (white) people that were previously doing said jobs were usually made redundant. Needless to say, this was an unwise strategy.
Not to mention the unskilled folk that were placed into secretarial roles.
Positive discrimination is still discrimination, but this seems to be lost on those promoting it.
Check out Tim Davies on the subject. A former RAF fast jet instructor. Serious but funny.

Having got rid of Mike Wigston, the RAF have now seen fit to admit this was illegal.
They've identified 31 presumably white young men who were discriminated against. Still playing it down - the issue seems to be that they missed out on a joining payment rather than the career they've dreamed of and dedicated themselves to. But at least there's an admission now that it was wrong.
Presumably legally action will follow, if it isn't already.

How does this even happen?
How does someone get into a position senior enough to set policy at this level who lacks the intelligence to realise the folly and the illegality of such an idea?
And then why are those beneath them implementing such a stupid idea?
This really is clown world.
