Advice on possible job change.
Discussion
Hoping someone can share some pearls of wisdom with a potential dilemma.
I currently work for a well known Broadband provider as a field tech, worked for them for just about 16 months.
I have been on a training course for the past 3 days, to allow me to work on the BT underground Infrastructure, running cables the BT way, that kind of thing. On the second day, the instructor asked if I would be interested in basically working for them as an instructor (it wasnt a specific job offer, more of a go online and apply) he also had a word with me on the last day before I left.
Im currently on 29k basic, with bonuses, and as much overtime as I want, bonuses and incentives probably equate to between 3-4k, and then overtime. The training role would be 39k starting salary, which I could realistically earn in my current role, but it would require me to do a decent amount of overtime.
The hours as an instructor would be Monday to Friday, the company do accreditation for BT, so I would be able to be trained to work up poles, health and safety amongst other things, the instructor role would also open up massive career potential as well.
The issue is that I live in Stoke and the job would be based in Lincoln which is a 2 hour commute each way, they did say that there would be the possibility of them covering hotel costs for 6 months.
Im 44, married, no kids, spoke to the wife and she has said the decision is entirely up to me, and we ould make it work if I decided to do it.
What are peoples thoughts?

Have you considered moving to Lincolnshire? Would that work?
Four hours a day will start to drag, then become a chore, and then you will actively hate it. Plus by Friday it will be a major physical effort to get out of bed when the alarm goes off.
If it was me, I'd seriously consider the job, but only if moving was an option.

I think if you are going to.do.it you would have to be looking at moving somewhere closet long term.
I have done the whole living in hotels myself for work.4 nights a week and even when I've had colleagues with me the experience wears thin quickly, when I've been on my own its worse.
Hotel living and hotel food quickly gets boring and no matter how good the hotel they all become the same very quickly whether it is a Premier Inn or a Hilton.
It may work for you but take a long term view.
