Starting a New Job While Taking Annual Leave from Old job?
Discussion
I have received a new job offer which I want to take but wish to delay my resignation date (due to interesting project which only I can do and a bonus payment), probably longer than the new company would prefer. To bring my start date at the new company forward, if the employment contracts don't specifically say otherwise, is there any problem with starting at a new employer while on annual leave from the old one? I do an annual tax return so any short term issues with taxation will get sorted then. Both jobs are PAYE. The overall packages are quite similar, in fact, the new job has no bonus so could actually be less but I fancy a change.
Any advice gratefully received.

No. I've done it a few times (I normally always have loads of untaken leave so using it as part of my notice period effectively converts it into overtime)As you've already noted there might be a slight delay in your new employer putting your tax details correct but I can't foresee any problems other than that.

Stop thinking like this for a start, whoever you work for. If you died you’d be replaced before your body was cold so never allow yourself to think you are irreplaceable. Shedding said:

Are they competitors in any way? It would be cleaner to be paid in lieu of the leave not taken and to fully cease your contract with your current employer. Also if your current employer, or their HR team, is in any way an ahole being employed by 2 companies at the same time without permission is giving them an open goal to make your life hard.
Mad. Just resign, agree your departure date, and have your former employer pay you for unused holiday, which they have to do. Not telling them you've taken another job, or resigning but pretending that your departure date is later than it actually is, and starting the new role while on holiday is breach of contract and could make your life difficult - and/or your new employer's life difficult, which would probably be the worse outcome.
