Does anyone have any knowledge, leads, or pointers in finding decent work in the Middle East? I dont mind doing some grafting and long hours if it pays off.

What countries are good to work in?
Is it better to find a western company with an opening there?
Any thought as to wages compared to the UK?

I am currently employed as a senior project engineer. I have worked with Radar, Surveillance and Security Systems, Command & Control Systems, RF Comms & Navigation systems. Industries include Roads, Aviation, Maritime, Offshore, Nuclear & Defense. I have also worked as a field commissioning & service engineer in all these roles.

I have previously done some commissioning work in RAK, but that was through a UK employer supplying specialist equipment there, I was made redundant from that job a couple of years ago.

Thanks.

As Klan points out Neom are one of the biggest if not the biggest hiring company in the md-East at present. They are hiring all sorts.

However it is Saudi which may be a problem for many

I've worked Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, Abu Dhabi & Oman. Each has it's pros & cons. Depending what you want wil determine which is best for you. If it's purely money then the answer is Saudi. Money you will see figure quoted all over the show, so it would always be hard to call. You also have to ensure you are comparing like-with-like as in what is included in the package but not shown in the salary. Eg: cars/travel/leaves etc..

Personally I would be reluctant to work for a non-Western company unless they were an Aramco or Neom. The smaller outfits can be less than reliable when it comes to pay, conditions, visas, passports & the like..

Agree with GT03ROB with regard locals companies in Saudi dont go near them had a few friends end up leaving the country with 10`s of thousands in unpaid wages.

Once world cup is finished I have heard that there will be a huge expansion in and around Ras Laffan.

Some of the western companies are only marginally better (Saudi)
As a recent Big 4 made headlines in the FT.. I was surprised at how accurate the article is. 😬
