PAYE Income Tax Going Up Despite Identical Payslips
Discussion
Hi all
After some wisdom or advice: this months payslip has seen my income tax go up by £96 for no apparent reason. My total and taxable pay are identical compared to the previous months (gross annual salary low £40k's) and there was no increase in national insurance or student loan contribution, tax code is identical on the payslips.
Am I missing something obvious? I received a bonus in the summer (several 000 £) but my earnings over the year will still keep me as a basic rate earner. All HR do is point me to HMRC which is absolutely zero use here. I have no other sources of income aside from my salary, and nothing to my mind has changed between September and Octobers pay.
Any advice would be appreciated, could pay for a day or two's heating with that £96
Thanks

Ad-hoc payments can cause spikes in the amount fo tax you pay. However I would have expected your tax to go down rather than up if your bonus was paid a few months ago.
Are you able to share your gross pay YTD and taxable pay YTD? it should enable us to calculate how much tax you've paid vs how much you should have paid.

Thanks both
Gross pay this tax year according to HMRC is 28,849.09 and which matches exactly with that entry on the pay slip.
Tax ytd states I've paid 4302.20
Bonus was paid in July or Augusts payslip. Worth noting I only went on to the 43k in the summer and was just over 40k before hand

Your YTD tax is correct.Gross pay this tax year according to HMRC is 28,849.09 and which matches exactly with that entry on the pay slip.

£7,332 was covered by our personal tax allowance (7332 is 7/12ths of £12,570)
The remaining £21,516 is all just within the 20% band. 20% of £21,516 is £4,303 (which is what you've paid)
