I had feedback from a VP that my message sent on their internal messaging system to a HR Director was aggressive. Would you agree?

When I say okay, it is agreeing to someone else in HR assisting. The HR director forwarded my email to her HR team.

Seriously?

I've read it several times and I can't even feel an undertone.

Pathetic really!

Yes, true, actually very unlike me. I generally thank and say please too much. Maybe a thanks would make it less aggressive.

If the HR Director thought you were aggressive..

...why didn't they pick up the phone and say "Oi, you bean counting oik, get off my case or else"

Or words to that effect hehe

Seriously though, what's this telling tales rather than grasping the nettle?

The most aggressive thing in that exchange is the double question mark from the person you're talking to. And that's not aggressive, maybe a touch passive aggressive.

DON'T YOU THINK??

Hahaha love it.

I haven't really settled into the company. Just not enjoying the work, working with the CFO or the new VP they hired who just is a yes man to the CFO. Repeats everything the CFO says.

The VP holds a meeting with me to bring this up "aggressive" point. I had given up by then and I just kept quiet. He advised me I shouldn't use the messaging platform, I should be on the phone. He also said I shouldn't email people and gave examples of an email I sent to someone else. He said I should hold meetings... its an international business with folks in different time zones! They need time to read, digest, gather information and send to me. Dont need meetings for please provide documents to back up your client revenue.

I'm a Director, there isn't any clear JD. They have me doing reconciliations. Just frustrating.

It's not aggressive. From a workplace politics perspective sounds like you may be in a difficult situation though - and may want to consider how you highlight and address it, or think about 'where next'

Dear tt
I did offer to contact the HR director and to apologise. The VP is undermines my authority.

I'm was so beaten up by these people and their nonsense just wanted to apologise for upsetting her.

Not aggressive at all. The HR Director clearly expects people to immediately drop whatever they're doing when he asks and has had his nose put out of joint by someone being assertive with him.

I'd question the company culture with the VP if that's what they expect

Funny you say that. They called today and said I haven't passed probation. Honestly I was so relieved. I am still with them for another week.
