I applied for a position with a large UK based company.

To make it easier to understand, this is the situation (names/company etc changed)

I applied to Royal Mail
Job title being Senior Software Engineer

I did really well at the stage one interview and now will go to the technical test. I am pretty confident I will do OK there too.

During this process I saw that there is a more senior position in the same team, title being Principle Software Engineer. I think this may be handled by a different internal HR person.

Is there a way I can tactfully suggest I be considered for this? I don't want to pee off the HR person or the people who interviewed me.

Thanks

Yes, explain to them why you would be better suited to it/ask them if they can help or apply for it separately.

Principal.

Just explain to them that on reflection you believe you are capable of - and want to apply for - the more senior role.

If we are interviewing and have multiple positions available of different levels seniority, we will consider the candidate for other positions if its a better fit for their experience and technical competency. This may be above or in some cases below their application seniority level.

I would mention it to the recruiter and ask them to feed this back to the team. Obviously you need to ace the interviews biggrin

Usually at my interviews discussions about development and career progression have been part of the discussions.

I'd expect them to be looking for candidates who will progress.
