As the title says could I get a meeting with an officer at my local Tax Office.

I’ll phone Monday but I’ve just had another letter and it’s getting me down.

In short I’ve got a problem that’s dragged on for years that they simply cannot find on their system. I’ve tried for hours to explain it on the phone but how do you explain something they can’t see?

A face to face would be much more productive.

Probably not.

I have a similar problem with the Child Maintenance Service who seem to think I owe about £30k when in fact I think it's rather a lot less. I tried to talk to them for 2 years to resolve it, on and off, email, phone, letters, whatever - eventually I gave up and told them to take me to court for it where I'll be happy to explain what their errors are.

Three years later and I'm still waiting to hear from them.

I'd stop worrying about it if I were you.

Don't pay your VAT, they'll soon be round.

Very unlikely.

Anything your local MP can do to assist? Or if you've got a good paper trail to point out their errors, start the complaint procedure and escalate it one tier at a time within HMRC.
