Does anyone have any personal recommendations of a good employment solicitor specifically for England law / england contract.

I was meant to start a new role in a few days but the offer was rescinded this morning. I am being offered 1 month pay as compensation but the hiring manager "unofficially" suggested I retain a solicitor for advice. Having never been in this situation before, a simple google search so hundreds of options, so if anyone has a personal recommendation, it would be appreciated.

Thank you

ACAS is free advice.

What was the reason? What do you hope to gain from getting legal advice?

Seems a reasonable question, particularly if he has quit another role for this one.

I personally recommend Mags Trench at Barrco, she's excellent.

i think you read my question incorrectly, the reason is, the cost of a solicitor, the monthly pay-out etc, a contract can be terminated, so the question is, is it really worth pursuing monetary wise, which is why I suggested ACAS, as they are free.

No I read it correctly.

A solicitor will advise on whether the 1 month compo is contractual or goodwill, whether there was valuable consideration offered etc. etc.

Could be a couple of grand at stake for the sake of £250 max in legal fees.

I accepted an offer 11th March for a senior leadership role and I resigned the same day (3 month notice period which I've been working). Company at the time was 1000 people globally, $1bn in revenue, so not a small company. 16th March, another company acquired them, re-privatised and de-listed them off the stock exchange.

Over the past few weeks, new company has been reviewing the company i.e. what have we really bought. I was due to start on Monday and as of 9am the offer was rescinded (according to the recruiter, as were about 15 other offers). The only reason given was any non-revenue generating roles would not be proceeding

I was offered 1 month salary as compensation but I was told off the record, to retain a solicitor. Reading between the lines, if I submit a complaint (I'm not going to beg for the role), that the compensation would be increased from 1 to 3 months, maybe more.

Hence the question. What am I trying to gain? Genuinely? Some breathing space to find a new role which any compensation would help with (wheels are already in motion to rescind my current resignation but no guarantees)

@largechris, thank you, I will call her today

I can give you fairly easy information (not legal advice because I am not instructed etc) but I am afraid it will not be want you want to hear.... Have you actually signed the contract? If so, a Tribunal would be considering your notice period as payment. If unsigned and withdrawn, they would owe you nothing...

Hi Jasandjules, sorr to threadjack but I have a question about my current job - it's nothing like the job description for the job i applied for. Can you direct me to any legislation that tells my what my rights are or are not? My union are being very slow in replying. Thanks in advance.

Contract is signed (has been since 11th March) and countersigned by company. Start date was meant to be Monday. Apart from a call, nothing received in writing. How do I get in direct contact with you?

Can you withdraw your resignation? You will have a duty to mitigate your losses of course.

Have a meeting booked with HR next week to see if it's an option. I know they've had 3 months to find a replacement but nothing yet and I "left" on good terms. So it's currently an option, will know next week if it's a viable one

Not really a legislation matter I would suggest but a contractual one.... And bear in mind how few rights you have if you have worked less than two years at your current place...

Ok, would need a lot more information really to be able to give friendly (i.e. not insured legal) advice/help...
