My family and I are moving to the Test Valley (near Stockbridge) and due to my wife not being able to drive are looking for a driver or driver/gardener. Due to the nature of the role it's difficult to write down an exact spec but do you know of somebody retired/semi-retired who'd want a nice job driving for our family? Would be ideal for someone locally who can be available a few days a week and increasing to five days when the kids are older (school runs etc).

Start 31st Jan or as soon as poss in Feb.

Thanks!

Would a taxi service not be cheaper?

Thanks for the message. A taxi service would likely be more expensive as we're effectively looking for someone to join our family, using our car, being available for 4/5 days a week to take my wife and kids to places, so with baby seats and bases etc couldn't be done with a minicab firm. Would likely suit a retired taxi driver though!

Try your local Gumtree page, a friend of mine now has a retired protection officer doing the job exactly as you describe.

Without divulging too much are you moving Romsey side of Stockbridge or towards Andover?

Hi!
We'll be on the Andover side.

As mentioned, Facebook, Gumtree, ask around in the village, drop a few cards off with as few people, a notice in the village store window.

Possibly ask the local taxi firm if they know of anybody.

Thanks, yes, have done the remote options. The notice boards we'll do when we're next down if either our two new candidates don't proceed. Thanks all!

Get your wife to learn to drive.

That, surely, must be the logical solution? No?

Definitely this, and ask n the local pub. The guy who runs the village shop in Chilbolton does all sorts of odd jobs around the local villages so knows everyone, shops tend to be a bit of a focal point for these kind of villages, which are full of retired people with lots of local groups and societies that can help out.

There may also be communal school runs from the village.

Unfortunately, that's not an option.

Thanks, we're going down to the place tomorrow and will take a drive through there and pop in! I've seen on Maps there's a decent looking pub there so could work well!

Thought I'd update the thread to see if anything new crops up.

Driving/gardening position available with my family in the Test Valley.

Live out role
Driving my wife & kids to/from appointments/seeing friends/nursery etc
Role will be carried out using our car.
Some hanging around will be necessary (if only a driver)
Mostly local. Some trips to London.

We have also put feelers out in the local shops and into the ex-Police and close protection sectors, although of course won't have reached every potential candidate!

Would be a great role for someone local who doesn't (yet) have commitments like grandchild care but wants to get back into work.

Monday - Friday. Occasional Saturday by prior arrangement.

Cheers!

Have you asked you local Council "Families Services" department to advertise as they may have people in these roles (we have similar needs and that seems to be the area we get applicants from over all other routes such as Indeed, TotalJobs, word of mouth in the local schools, shops etc).

Have you tried the regional thread on PH, for south coast. Must be lots of retired service people in that region
