Setting Personal Goals as a Full stack Software Developer

Hi,

I have a meeting with my line manager in three weeks time on personal goals. He has asked me to come fully prepared about my personal goals.

I am a full stack developer and i have been working with .Net and SQL databases for over 8 years now. I started my new job about a year ago, company environment (cooperate) is a lot different than all my previous jobs. I have never been in a situation where i have to set some goals for coming year with my line manager.

I was wondering if someone can share his experience.

Here are some goals i have in my mind;

- Continue working on support backlog
- Continue working on development backlog
- Continue to learn and improve my development skills
- Learning about the company to find where I can make a contribution from a business perspective rather than just an IT perspective
- I am interesting in learning BI(business intelligence) and getting more experience on MVC.

There are three path to pick from, Business Analyst , Team Lead and Architect. I find all of them boring.

I have oracle and Microsoft Certification, extra certification won't earn me progression plus i like to learn on job or through projects.

Use the SMART way of setting objectives as the statements you have made are too vague

Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Timely

Example

Achieve chartered engineer status awarded by IMechE by the end of 2018
