Hi all
So bit of background.
Same agent had 2 jobs advertised. I was put forward for both.
I had 1st round interviews with both and progressed with 2nd rounds. Job1 2nd round was first. Went well but there were a few negatives about the role so i we hoping to nail job2 interview when i came around in a few days time. Job1 feedback came back same day and i was offered the role BUT was also told Job2 role is no longer available as it was filled by an earlier candidate. Role on hard sale and pressure to accept Job1
Job2 have since been in touch to express disappointment that i had CANCELLED the 2nd round interview...
So it seems the the recruiter was forcing my hand to accept the contract he wanted me to accept. More commission i expect.
Is life too short to make a big deal about this?

At the very least I would be having a word with the agent who put you forward for the roles and told you that role 2 was already filled.
Was there a big difference in day rate is what it ultimately comes down too, unless work from home or short distance to site was a big part of the 2nd role.
Either way, you have no idea if you would have been offered role 2 or if the role truly existed or it was just speculative.
Mental black mark against agency. Maybe use it as leverage come contract renewal time for a rate rise as a good will gesture? Worth a punt at least.

Job1 i was an additional 30 min (30mins at a minimum) journey time that that of Job2
Job1 was a chunk less a day but as soon as i was reversing out of the possibility of accepting the role, jumped up an additional £60 a day
Job2 is now arrange an interview directly with me

That is extremely poor practice, I would hope at least that JOB1 had put extreme pressure on the recruiter either as they had a back up candidate or similar. Job1 i was an additional 30 min (30mins at a minimum) journey time that that of Job2

But, can't defend that, Will be interesting if the agent goes after the Client at JOB2 for a commission if you do accept the job there.
I would look into if the recruitment firm are a member of REC and if they are report them.

What did company2 say when you told them the agent had said to you that their position had been filled? That will make an uncomfortable chat for recruiter. Hope it ruins his weekend.

Turns out i got offered a contract from the job the Agent told me was filled. Very pleased.
Still not sure how to escalate the issue. They have said not to worry and they wont deal with the agency again but i am wondering if i raise this complaint, they will have to pay a finders fee to the agent?

Leave well alone. Technically in the terms and conditions you are now all three in a potential pickle. Going direct was obvs the right thing to do but by being put forward that agency now "own" your application. So can get shirty about no longer being involved.
That agency have already demonstrated being unscrupulous so the best thing to do is go to ground and accept that they have lost their business.
Be as quiet as you can and accept that you have "won" the outcome you wanted. Any further grief won't get you any reward. This may be fairly selfish but I found that dodgy recruitment agents normally get their karma anyway and there are too many of them to wage any meaningful battle anyway.
