Explain this situation to me, get a brew,it is long.
Discussion
There is more to this but I will try not to ramble.
I work in the commercial plumbing/heating industry. I am an agency worker. Gold CSCS card, senior fitter.
I am currently working on the biggest job this company has ever done, yesterday, due to various circumstances there was only me and their labourer on the whole job.
I was up a scaffold installing pipework when the labourer came to me rather agitated saying the boss had been on the phone saying there were some toilet seats loose in another part of the building (1st phase, now up and running). The labourer was to go and have a look and to take me with him.
Now the labourer in question is a hard worker and more or less an alright bloke but seriously lacking in the brains dept.
I was half way through what I was doing and loose toilet seats were not a major priority so I finished what I was doing (10 min's) and went for a look.
The labourer was getting more and more agitated and excited, pacing about, saying he has been for a look and rung the boss back telling him "it is no effing good the effing toilet sets are no effing good the toilets would all need effing stripping out to fix them cos we can't get to the fixings."
The toilet area was a live part of the building with people coming in and out all the time. I quietly said to him to calm down, stop swearing and tell me what he has done to try and fix the seats.
He said he hasn't done anything except ring the boss back and tell him what he had told me.
I said had we not better have a go fixing some of them before he rings up and reports the 'disaster'.
It was getting late on a Friday so had a go at a few of the seats and repaired some of them but some of them were beyond a simple fix.
The labourer was dancing about and he asked me if there was anything he could do. I said have you got a 2mm allen key a screwdriver and a pair of grips, he said no so I said well no, there is nothing you can do.
I had a go at half of them before it came to going home time and rang their boss to fill him in on the situation.
He said 'oh no matter, Chris (the foreman) will go and have a look tomorrow (Saturday).'
I said there is no need really as they are beyond a simple quick fix.
'Oh right so he does not need to go.' I said 'No not really, it's nothing that cant wait until Monday'.
Now my issue is.....
1. Why did they ring the labourer and not me?
2. Are they seriously mis-guided into thinking he could actually do anything considering the fact he has no tools and struggles with even the most basic of tasks.
3. Am I paranoid and reading far too much into the situation.

Could it be that the boss called the laborer as you're an agency worker?
Sounds like a minor situation being blown out of proportion by the other guy, possibly as it's more than a few items which require attention in a live part of the building.
Was the boss ok when you spoke with him about it?
I think you're being paranoid here and overthinking the problem. Just fix them on Monday.

Yes, probably just the old agency worker stigma.
In this game, a few years ago it used to be correct, but with a lot of companies dropping their permanent staff and going to management only it is just nonsense. Permanent this week, agency scum next week?
At first the boss was sort of 'oh right, don't worry about it, we will get someone to sort it' (Pat on the head, you run along now and leave it to the grown ups).
He then agreed that it didn't need urgent attention.
Paranoid? Yes, possibly a bit, but paranoia has turned into the truth a good few times in the past.

They probably thought that a simple job like tightening up half a dozen toilet seats would be in the realms of the labourers skill set, why bother you with it if he could pop along and sort it obviously he's not capable of sorting it and dragged you in to help as not to look completely useless
