Evening,

As above.

I am currently working my notice period in Education Management. I have been horrified at the left wing indoctrination I have seen going on in Schools (by Teachers who insist they are never passing their political views onto pupils - lies) and amongst local Councils, Chambers of Commerce and other Education Management Companies and Charities.

I can give many examples for the above, but this afternoon whilst candidates for a few jobs were being discussed prior to interviews tomorrow, the above comment was made regarding a candidate so clear discrimination and going to waste her time tomorrow interviewing her for nothing. I replied with 'good job I'm leaving then isn't it if you don't want Tories working here'

This was met with a rant by one of the Directors about how the Tory Government made her redundant blah blah. I didn't get into how her entire business was started and is entirely funded by (under) a Tory Government 3 years ago and is doing so well they are taking 5 new staff on as above. She's happy to take Tory money.

The company want me to cold call sell for them (I am from a sales background) but won't pay any bonus for doing so. They have this bizarre desire for some super hot salesperson who is also a loony leftie and will sell for no bonus.

I've told them they've no chance of finding anyone who'll fit that criteria as it's two totally different personality types. Sales people are motivated by money. I find it galling really that they are wanting money from those nasty capitalist companies they despise so much and taking money from the Government they hate.

So can I just not go in for my notice period and forfeit the wages instead - I really cannot stand it anymore. The only issue I have is of course for any new job I will have to give my last employer as a reference.

How long is the notice period?

Personally I would work it. We all have to work with people we don't agree with. Don't let them affect your futures references.

I'm a bit confused.

You work for a private company but you seem to be referring to Teachers in State schools.

How do employees who work for a private company indoctrinate kids in school?

I'm referring to what I see teachers doing in the classrooms of the schools I visit. I look after 38 Secondary Schools.

I'm also referring to the mindset of Education Management Companies who are delivering CPD to Teachers and the mindset of the other public sector bodies I deal with.

Yes my Employer is a private company but it is fully Government grant funded so may as well be public sector.

Many large companies leech of Government contracts for funding as well especially in the construction sector.
I used to work in an office block half full of Dept for Education and Ofsted staff, many times in the lift me and my boss would remark how grateful we were to get out kids out of the state sector into private education smile

What made you think that anyone connected with state funded education would think favourably of conservative politics? Equally, why did you choose to go into that sector in the first place? As a right winger, don't you believe in lower taxation and less public spending? Very odd post!

I've always kept my political views separate from work and took the view if people just got on with their jobs as they should, I don't care what their views are.

What has sickened me is the left wing drip drip in Secondary Schools. Teachers are supposed to be neutral.

I took the job because I wanted to encourage young people to be successful in life as I have been and was in a position to be able to afford to leave the rat race and do something more worthwhile.

I have seen students openly derided by Teachers for saying they wanted to work in banking or finance and sales.

So would you agree that you were relatively "right wing"? Which, in turn would mean that people who were centrist (ie anybody to the left of you) you would consider to be "left wing"?

Teachers IME contain the same range of political, opinions that any other profession does.

If anything in that last sentence is correct I would escalate it to their line manager. The teacher's not the students.

Not in my experience of Teaching. I have to focus in schools in areas of over 40% FSM.

So what you're saying is anyone who is Tory is therefore Right wing but the left can be 'centrist' ? I am not ' right wing' but I certainly would never ever vote for Corbyn / Abbott / McDonnell. I've voted Labour in the past, this time I voted Tory.

In answer to the other poster I don't agree taxes should be lower but I firmly believe the grotesque waste of monies that goes on in the public sector should be culled.

Not sure why nobody is commenting on the positive discrimination of the lady who is going to drive to an interview tomorrow and waste her time completely having probably got her hopes up, taken a day off, spent hours preparing a presentation etc.

So was your opening post more about whipping up a bit of fury towards lefty teachers?

In which case, yeah, bloody commies. Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone!

You may think it's ok that there is a concerted effort in the Education sector to remove any other views than left and turn a blind eye to the drip drip going on in state schools but I certainly don't.

Education should be neutral.

The bullst is strong with this one. My wife has enough on her plate trying to drill her subject into the pupils' brains without adding political indoctrination as a side dish.

OTOH, if you want an example of political indoctrination, I remember at school my RE teacher noting my lack of interest and giving me these strange booklets to read which were all about Soviet repression of Christians. Needless to say I was as disinterested in that as I was in the Scriptures.

Like you, I got to a position where I could put something back... been teaching for seven years (after 15 all over the U.K. working in project management) in a rough area, bottom four for income deprived, and I've been nothing other than impressed by the teachers I work with for their relentless efforts to improve the students aspirations and self-confidence to go out and do something with their lives.

Just mentioning this for some semblance of balance.

If I heard any teacher actively put a student down for wanting to go into finance or sales I'd either pick them up on it or go to their manager. I certainly would let it lie.

Not bullst at all. I said there's a drip drip which there is during lessons and form time, not a blatant indoctrination. It's the careers advice days where we get people in from industry where you get the teachers openly spouting off and deriding the pupils. I'm glad to be getting out of it.

Have another rofl

Every single teacher I had tried to force their lefty opinions on us. One of the most vociferous was a maths teacher! Really, WTAF? Who in their right mind thinks their political opinions are relevant to maths lesson of all things?

Fortunately I was able to withstand the onslaught and remain as right wing as ever hehe. It also meant that there was no way I was going to consider a state school, or even an metropolitan indy for my two children.

Given that the majority of people go through the State School system and that, over the last 100+ years we have had governments of both mild-left and mild-right tendencies it suggests that either (a) Indoctrination of the masses by the Teaching establishment is ineffective or (b) It’s non-existent except in the minds of certain people who admit they are right-wing and see Commies everywhere.

Is the training for private school teachers magically different than for those who teach in State schools? What happens to their "lefty"/"righty" leanings if they switch between the 2? Is there some sort of question designed to filter out the commies at the interview stage?

a) Largely ineffective as most teachers, and indeed lefty's are thick as mince, and unable to convince even a naive 10 year old of the merits of socialism. If you can't do... etc. etc.

Most lefty teachers want to stay in their lefty liberal metropolitan little echo chambers, so are unlikely to venture too far out into the sticks where there are nasty evil people with 4x4s and guns and hunt poor innocent little animals and read the Spectator instead of the Guardian.
Edited to add bold for clarity.
