Example covering letters to recruitment agencies?

Just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any sources for example covering letters to recruitment agencies?

I've got a the names of a few agencies relevant to my industry, and while I'm probably over-thinking this, I'm struggling with a format for the covering letter which goes with my cv. I've been told to include why (reasons for leaving current role) / what (I'm looking for in terms of role, level, salary etc) / where / when - does this sound enough? Any more I need to get me noticed?

As you say you are probably over thinking on this. The agency will simply want to know what you are looking for, where you are able to travel to perhaps a salary guide. Any more is best covered with a phone call which saves everyone's time.

Agree keep it really simple.

All I ever include are a few bullet points covering key facts not normally found in CV like rate/salary expectation, notice period and acceptable locations.

Don't bother.

Get a named person in the agency and talk to them. Keep them as your main contact. Send them the cv.

Job done. They will take notes from your conversation anyway and it should be kept with your "file". Better a conversation for 30 mins than agonising over wording a cover letter.
